Cripes, every time I hear a casting update for director Robert Schwentke’s upcoming R.I.P.D. -an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic series- I think someone has died. Of course the comics full title, “Rest In Piece Department” wouldn’t sound any better. Seriously, I can’t be the only one to see a headline like “So and so Joins RIPD” and not think death at first glance.  Anyway. The flick is set to start shooting in Boston next month (my home town. “Pahk the cah in havahd yahd”) and the finalization of the cast is in process.

R.I.P.D is about a recently murdered man (Ryan Reynolds) who is recruited by the Rest In Piece Department, a group of  dead detectives who police the after life. He teams up with a grizzled old veteran, played by Jeff Bridges, to find out who murdered him and will face-off against a character played by Kevin Bacon.

The new additions include Mike O’Malley, whom some of us may remember from Nickelodeon’s ‘Global Guts’, who’ll be playing a ghost, and Sports Illustrated model Marisa Miller, who’ll play the human avatar of Jeff Bridges’ character. James Hong has also joined the cast of R.I.P.D. Hong is best known for starring in Blade Runner and Big Trouble in Little China. He will play “Grandpa Chen,” Reynolds’ avatar, the form humans see when Reynolds’ character goes about his business.

Personally, I don’t quit know what to make of this casting. R.I.P.D is another comic I have yet to read (I am sooo behind), so I have no clue if these choices are good fits. I’ll leave the matter for you to decide. But, I will say: d-d-d-do you have it?…GUTS!

Deadline broke the news of O’Malley’s casting and The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Miller’s and Hong’s.
