‘RoboCop’ Release Date Announced

Nobody asked for it, but a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 cult-classic film RoboCop is happening. *sigh* How can you even top the original? Anyway…

It was announced earlier this week that Sony will distribute the movie for MGM. Strike Entertainment’s Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing with a script from Josh Zetumer. And Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) has been confirmed to play the role of Officer Alex J. Murphy in the The  José Padilha helmed reboot.

So, when will you be able to see it? While I don’t think anyone should be marking their calendar for this, but if you must know…August 9th, 2013.

A summer release, eh? That’s a good vote of confidence from the Studio. If they think this can be a summer contender then they must they have a worthy product on their hands. In other words, they’re not rushing to make a flop.

I still don’t feel the need to revisit one of the greatest action films of the 80’s. The original RoboCop still holds up. Especially with it’s social commentary on evil corporations and what not.

With that said, I do have a reserved sense of curiosity. Maybe it will be good? With José Padilha directing, we’ll at-least get a visually satisfying experience.
