In the wake of the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man announcement we can expect to see and read a lot more about Spider-Man and his addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the next few days. There’s still a ton of questions to be answered and the Internet being the Internet, you know we won’t just wait for the answers, we’ll speculate, postulate, and basically throw Spider-man Webbing at the Internet Wall and see what sticks. What’s the burning Spider-Man question we hope to answer right now? Where will Spider-Man make his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?spidey-dance-1423573067

We now know that Spider-Man’s first solo Marvel Cinematic Universe film will be released July 28th, 2017 in what was Thor: Ragnarok‘s original release date. We don’t know the title or the storyline yet, but I imagine that might have been part of the whole Sony/Marvel deal so we might hear something definite sooner than we might expect.

That still leaves us with the question:

Where will Spider-Man make his Marvel Cinematic Universe Debut?

Some people are saying that the announcement states that Spider-man will make one appearance before his Solo movie, but let’s take another look at that part of the release:

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago.

It only says Spider-Man will make his FIRST appearance… That means that he might actually make more than one appearance before Sony and Marvel combine for Spider-Man’s first solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That opens a lot of doors.
Here’s the movies scheduled to come out before the solo Spider-Man movie:
Avengers: Age of Ultron – May 1str 2015
Ant-Man – July 17th 2015
Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016
Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5, 2017
Spider-Man – July 28, 2017
Now the first movie that comes to mind is Captain America: Civil War, because that is most likely the reason Marvel started serious talks with Sony in the first place, but will it be the first time we see Spider-Man? If Spider-Man is in Civil War it will be the first time we see him with a meatier part. Why would I say that? Because I don’t think it will be the first time we at least see Spider-man in a Marvel movie.
A post credits scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron is a good possibility. Those end credits scenes are often shot after production wraps and on short notice. If Spider-man is going to be recast and Andrew Garfield is out then we might not see Peter Parker’s face, but a masked Spider-Man would be easy for Marvel to get on-screen on short notice.
Even if Spidey makes an after credit appearance on A:AOU he could still make other appearances in post credit scenes in Ant-Man as well. What better way to beef up his back story in the Marvel U than include bits here and there as they can before the big reveal in Civil War?
I’ll even throw it out there… what if Spider-Man makes an appearance on Netflix‘s Daredevil that premieres April 10th this year? Now that the Sony door is open, Marvel might be able to at least establish that Spider-Man is out there using the Netflix series as a starting point. It might only be a newspaper article about Spider-Man that Matt Murdock or Foggy Nelson is reading, but it could be an easy slip in for Marvel. Perhaps Murdock hears about Spider-Man’s colorful costume decides to make his own?
Where do you think Spider-Man will make his first appearance and what form do you think it will take?
