Few entertainment properties mean as much to as many people as Star Wars does. Its highly imaginative world, characters, creatures, and absurd variety of vehicles have touched many a geeky heart for decades now, with its appeal never fading for a moment. It’s no surprise then that the Star Wars videos games, for the most part, have been so far above your typical licensed gaming garbage. They almost always feel like honest, loving creations from the people who grew up with the films instead of corporate-backed, cynical cash grabs. Star Wars Battlefront, long one of frontrunners for the position of best Star Wars videogame, has had a reboot in the works for quite some time now but has remained a mystery to most.

Until today, that is. EA has officially unveiled the project with an exciting video and tons of details, including its release date and pre-order incentives. Check it out!

Aside from my annoyance that the trailer features absolutely no gameplay or in-engine footage, I must admit that the trailer has me more than a little excited about the game. If this footage is to be believed, it’ll practically be a Star Wars toy box for those of us who grew up with it. We’ll be able to battle through just about scenario imaginable with our friends and foes. Pretty damn exciting!

Journalists were reportedly given the opportunity to spend some time with Battlefront behind the scenes and initial buzz is exceptionally high. The game’s astounding detail and fun combat has especially impressed the folks who’ve gotten their hands on it, which gives me hope that the trailer isn’t a dishonest one like so many modern games. We’ll find out for ourselves when it launches on November 17 but, in the meantime, I’d expect to see a lot more of this game in the coming weeks, especially leading up to and including E3.
