That was quite the turbulent season on The Walking Dead. Good friends and family were lost, the remaining survivors were pushed to the breaking point, and on top of it all, the group thought they found salvation only to be confronted with very human demons within the walls of the so-called Alexandria Safe Zone. So now what? Well, it’s back to business for the highly popular zombie drama this October, as Rick and the gang face all new challenges inside Alexandria, where things are so much more complicated than merely surviving. Or is it? Unsure, but there will be some new faces on the show this season that will help find an answer.
Now if you look at the key art above then you know that things seem like they’re about to get pretty tense in ASZ. Maybe some new faces will help calm things down, however unlikely that is. The cover story for this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly is all about The Walking Dead, including new photos and insight from executive producer Scott M. Gimple about the new characters.
Meet Ethan Embry who plays Carter. “Ethan plays a combo of a few characters that we actually haven’t hit yet or weren’t able to hit in other characters,” said Gimple. “He is an Alexandrian, and has been there the whole time, just quite busy.”
Next meet Corey Hawkins who plays Heath, who in the comic book is a supply runner for Alexndria. “He’s terrific and I’m so excited to see him bring Heath to life,” Gimple said. “It’s been fun and he dove in with both feet. He’s tough and skeptical when the cameras are rolling, and then when they’re off he’s just like a goofy fan. He’s really, really excited to be there.”
And finally, season 6 will introduce Merritt Wever as Dr. Denise Cloyd, another comic-based character who is also the love interest for Heath. Dr. Cloyd kills will come in pretty hand since Rick put a cap in the dome of the last doctor of the ASZ. (It’s okay, he was abusing his wife and kids.)
The Walking Dead will return October 11 on AMC with a super-sized 90-minute episode. In the meantime Fear the Walking Dead, the new spin-off/companion series will premiere on August 23.
