Minion Mayhem in Ireland

One man’s fury is another man’s social media fodder. Part of an advertising campaign, a giant inflatable Minion broke free of his constraints on a local fairground in Ireland yesterday. Traffic was obstructed and at least one vehicle was damaged, but no injuries were sustained and the runaway minion was deflated. It’s unclear how the detachment came to be, and Councilor Paul McAuliffe of the Dublin City Council is not taking the matter lightly. He shared this photo and warning on Twitter:Screen Shot 2015-08-04 at 3.31.44 PM

McAuliffe spoke up about the incident again to The Journal:

“Fairground events and festivals are really important in bringing footfall to our city villages but even the smallest events have health and safety conditions,”

“I have asked the Council to provide me with a report on the incident and for the operators of the fairground to be interviewed by council officials.”

“I don’t want to sound like a killjoy, but if that had landed on a cyclist, for instance, it could have been serious,”

It is of course important to remember that under different circumstances this could’ve been a very messy ordeal, as well as a dangerous one. Luckily this time the residents of Dublin City just come away with a funny story about some Minion mischief. (Did anyone else find it ironic that McAuliffe used the word “despicable” in his tweet?)
