While Lionsgate might be trying to figure out how to do more Hunger Games after the final chapter hits theaters in November later this year, it doesn’t mean they’re not looking for the next Hunger Games franchise to cash in on. Word is that Lionsgate is looking to take everyone to the Borderlands. That’s right, Lionsgate is taking the video game to movie plunge with game developer Gearbox‘s Borderlands video game franchise.
Heading up the production will be the father son team of Avi and Ari Arad. The pair have been long time producers on the non-Marvel Marvel movies like Blade, Ghostrider, X-Men, and The Amazing Spider-Man. This time they are teamed up with Lionsgate and Take Two Interactive Software (2K).
Take-Two Interactive Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick had this to say:
Lionsgate has emerged as a major creative force in the global marketplace with an incredible portfolio of brands; our partners at Gearbox have pioneered and cultivated an iconic property; and Avi and Ari Arad are two of the most successful producers of action franchises.
This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight ‘Borderlands” current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.
Here’s a quick tell all synopsis for the Borderlands series of video games.
*Insert Spoiler Warnings here. If you haven’t played the games and think you might, don’t watch the video below. If you have it is a nice refresher.
They also released a special edition called Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Accolades:
While there is no word on who will handle the script writing, directing or who might star in the movie. We’ll probably hear something once a working script is in hand. What do you think? There’s certainly plenty of great characters and story there for Lionsgate to mine, but will it just be another crappy video game turned into a movie that no one wants to watch twice let alone once?
