The Marvel Cinematic Universe is barely into Phase 3 and casting rumors are flying everywhere. The latest rumor to hit the airwaves has to do with Captain Marvel. A popular character already, the highly anticipated movie is currently in search of its leading role well before a script has even been written. Still, people love to speculate and with a slew of leading women to pick from, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will play the iconic character. This time around, the name on everyone’s mind is Rebecca Ferguson.
Hot off the heels of the latest installment of Mission Impossible, the Swedish born Ferguson was one of the best parts of that movie. She even gave Tom Cruise a run for his money as to who the leading star of the movie was. Her other credits include a concerned mother in Hercules starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and can also be seen in the television mini-series The White Queen where she played Queen Elizabeth.
Being a current player and hot commodity, it’s really no surprise she’s getting all the looks regarding the leading role in Captain Marvel. She’s probably getting a lot of looks for a lot of other movies as well. If cast for the role, she would probably do a good job. She did a fine job showing off her fighting skills in Mission Impossible and, as mentioned before, her acting was great.
No offense to Ms. Ferguson, but it’s still very early, and there may be a better casting for the role. I’m sure you’re going expecting my endorsement of Ronda Rousey, but I’m not sure if I’m sold on that yet. Don’t get me wrong. The edited photos of her in the Captain Marvel outfit did look good, and we already know she can fight. So while superhero movies are all about the actions, I’d still like someone who could act the part. Unfortunately, I did not see Expendables 3, but something tells me that I didn’t miss much as to what she could do acting wise. If I’m wrong, do tell me.
So, if not Ronda, then who would I have play Captain Marvel? This is a hard question to answer. Captain Marvel is one of the strongest, leading ladies in comic book history. Her casting, if you wanted to do comic book fans any justice, would have to be near perfect. Sadly, such a thing doesn’t exist. I’m not sure if I would please anyone if I named someone. As of right now, I’m going to leave this one open.
Captain Marvel is due out sometime in 2018.
