Borderlands brought us into Pandora (not to be confused with James Cameron’s Pandora) in 2009. Gamers fell in love with the unique weaponry, and open world play. The game was a massive hit for Gearbox, and spawned a sequel in 2012. Numerous DLC content has been made for both games, and Borderlands 2 became a top seller, with over 13 million copies sold for various platforms. Vault hunters can now rejoice as another sequel is on the way.

Randy Pitchford of Gearbox spoke at a PAX East panel, stating “Obviously, there is going to be another Borderlands.”  It was further said that Borderlands 3 may not be the actual title of the upcoming game. Not much in the way of definitive information besides the actual announcement was available.

Gearbox’s Mikey Neumann who voices Scooter the mechanic will be heading up the writing and hinted that he’d like to introduce Scooter’s son as a potential new character “Scooper”.  Nothing is official yet, but Neumann maintains that upon hearing some of his Scooter voice overs raised several octaves “it sounds like a chipmunk and it was the funniest thing I’d ever heard”, so that could only lead to good things right?

Scott Kester of the upcoming Battleborn game will be in charge of art direction. Battleborn will be released May 3, 2016 and with the beta being played by over 2 million people much buzz has been building. Battleborn itself holds many nods and easter eggs for Borderlands, but PAX also clued us in that within the DLC for Battleborn some Borderlands 3 easter eggs will be hidden.

Fans were told to scrutinize the DLC for more information about the upcoming sequel. There is also early talk of movie based off the video game, which we all know is hit or miss – really really miss. But Lionsgate and Arad Productions are apparently in talks with Gearbox in hopes of expanding the franchise further.

All of this leaves us incredibly hopeful for yet another kick ass adventure, but we will likely have to wait until late next year or even longer before gamers can get their vault on in the next Borderlands.
