In what will likely be one of the biggest reveals of the week, and coming squeezed between D23 and San Diego Comic Con that’s really saying something, the BBC has set sometime on Sunday as the world premiere revelation of the identity of the new Doctor, the thirteenth iteration of the time travelling alien from Doctor Who. The series tenth season ended earlier this month, and it was fairly clear that the Doctor was on the brink of regeneration. Now, it’s two more sleeps till we learn what that regeneration will look like later this year.
Let’s go to the tweet.

So if you aren’t in a video kind of mood, basically the Thirteenth Doctor will be revealed this Sunday following the Wimbledon Men’s Finals. For you non-tennis fans, the match is scheduled to end at 6:30 pm U.K. time, which is about 1:30 pm eastern time. However, tennis is imprecise in terms of timing, so the announcement may not be available promptly at 1:30. You will likely recall that Peter Capaldi was announced as the new Doctor in August 2013 as part of a lavish TV special hosted by Zoe Ball, but there’s no word on what the BBC has planned for the announcement this Sunday.
Capaldi’s final season as the Doctor wrapped on July 2, but he will appear in the as-yet untitled Christmas special this holiday alongside David Bradley as the First Doctor portrayed by William Hartnell before transforming into number 13. The Christmas special will also mark the final episode the series for showrunner Steven Moffat, who will be turning the reins over to Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall. Presently, the best odds are on Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall as the Thirteenth Doctor, but we’ll have that revelation for you on Sunday.
