Cornrows #1

Set in Baltimore, Maryland, Cornrows follows Theo Mayfield. Theo is a high school P.E. teacher. After the tragic loss of one of his students, Theo decides to take matters into his own hands. As Theo hunts for those responsible he discovers things aren’t as clear cut as he thought they were. In fact, his entire city is in danger.

According to the Kickstarter page “If you’re a fan of the hit HBO series, The Wire, or Daredevil, or The Punisher (maybe all three), you’re going to find it thrilling to follow our masked vigilante through the streets of B-More.” Theo definitely gives off Daredevil meets Punisher vibes.

Cornrows is not about superpowers but attempting to do something that is “super,” it’s the idea of being a real person and watching some of the horrific and tragic things that happen in life, specifically your community, and actually doing something about it, them, getting out there, and in Theo’s case, going the extreme to eradicate the wrong. Theo could be any one of us — if we acted — and not necessarily to his extreme of revenge but the other ways that we could change the world and/or right a wrong.”

The Kickstarter page lists the creative team as:

Brian L Hawkins, educator and freelance writer as well as assistant editor for Mad Cave Studios.

Artist Marcio Henrique da Silva.

Artist Adrianna.

Artist and assistant inker D. Forrest Fox.

And Guido Martinez.

With 19 hours to go, as of the posting of his article, Cornrows is fully funded and any pledge at this point is to a guaranteed comic book. Pledge on Kickstarter and support a powerful indie comic!
