NBC’s Powerless is getting more star power by the minute. The comedy, based in the super-powered world of DC Comics, focuses on the non-super characters populating an insurance agency. Earlier this week, Vanessa Hudgens signed on to play Emily Locke, the show’s lead character.

Now two names well-known in the nerd community have also joined the show: Alan Tudyk, from Firefly and Con Man, and Danny Pudi from NBC’s former show Community.  (more…)


For several weeks, shoppers have complained about the lack of female representation in Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise. Both Captain Phasma and Rey were missing from boxed sets of the movie’s action figures, which instead included a nameless pilot and stormtrooper. A grassroots campaign began on social media with the #WheresRey hashtag, prodding Disney for a response. Now they finally have their answer.

Wolverine can only hope to have this much fun while he’s dead. Gwenpool started out as a truly inspired mashup cosplay of Gwen Stacy and Deadpool at the San Diego Comic-con. The pink-powered merc quickly went viral, becoming official with appearances in titles like Howard the Duck and the Gwenpool Holiday Special.



Kurt Russell confirmed he’s been contacted by James Gunn for the role of Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. On the Monday edition of the Happy Sad Confused Wolfpop podcast, Russell admitted he received a phone call just a few days ago from Gunn asking if he would take the part. Russell admitted that before he could consider it, he would need to do a couple of things first.



Ever wonder how Kevin McCallister turned out after the events in Home Alone? Jack Dishel’s new webseries :DRYVRS tackles the question in the first episode with an appearance by Macaulay Culkin. The episode, called “Just Me in the House By Myself,” clocks in at just over five minutes, but it gives the audience a pretty good idea of how Kevin’s life has gone since that fateful week when he was eight years old. The force is definitely not with Quentin Tarentino.

The acclaimed director who made such hits as Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction in the days when Disney owned Miramax is now accusing Disney of stabbing him in the back. His new film, The Hateful Eight, was set to start its run at the Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles on Christmas Day. Now, instead of a movie featuring drama, betrayal and guns, the ArcLight Cinemas outlet will show a blockbuster featuring drama, betrayal and lightsabers.



What could make the retro 1970s and 80s vibe of Guardians of the Galaxy even better? The casting rumor that Kurt Russell could become Chris Pratt’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, set to begin production in February. Russell has been identified as director James Gunn’s top pick for the role, even though the veteran action hero hasn’t yet read the script. (more…)

Ruins of Las Vegas

It was hard to deny the bro-tastic chemistry between Will Smith‘s swaggering Steven Hiller and Jeff Goldblum’s tree-hugging David Levinson in the original 1996 movie Independence Day. As 20th Century Fox dropped the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence over the weekend, the main question everyone has is “Where is Will Smith?” While the trailer doesn’t mention his fate, the movie’s backstory does, and you’re not going to like the answer.




If you’re going to have a villain, hire the best. British actor Charles Dance is likely best known in the U.S.  for his role as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, but he has a long history of crafty bad guys in  Frankenstein, the Underworld movies and Dracula Untold, among other films. Inverse announced that  Dance has been cast in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, alongside Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon,  Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones. (more…)
