Profile: Comic book reviewer, writer, jeweler, cook and pop culture fanatic. Livin' a gorram life of nerdvana - sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, conventions, and superheroes. Sometimes out of my frakkin' mind.
For the second year in a row, Conan O’Brien is taking his show on the road to San Diego to attend Comic Con International: San Diego, otherwise known as SDCC. Last year Conan partnered with Funko, the company behind all of the Pop! Vinyl figures that have been taking the world by storm. Featuring characters from a wide variety of pop culture icons, the figures this year honoring the late night talk show host feature Conan dressed as a number of notable characters from upcoming films, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ghostbusters, Justice League, and Suicide Squad. It seems like nearly every week something new hits the web regarding the upcoming David Ayer film ‘Suicide Squad.’ From trailers, to a prequel comic book tie-in to the film, talks of solo spinoff movies, and even discussions on the significance of Jared Leto’s Joker’s tattoos. We learned nearly a year ago that FX Networks had renewed “The Strain” for a third season. Based off Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain Trilogy, the vampire outbreak series has a strong following. It was a bit surprising when it was announced that season three would only consist of 10 episodes, three shorter than each of the past two seasons (13 apiece). It will be great seeing Dr. Goodweather (good ol’ Eph) and his allies enter the 24th day since the outbreak. To whet our appetite so we can endure the next two months until its debut, FX has released the official trailer for season three.
The transformation has begun.
It can no longer be denied — New York City is rapidly falling to an evil epidemic, and no one is coming to its rescue. Its citizens must fight or die.
Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his unlikely allies tried to take down the embodiment of this evil — the Master — and failed. Now Eph and Dr. Nora Martinez concentrate on creating a biological weapon to wipe out the creatures, while Abraham Setrakian searches for an ancient book he hopes will reveal the strigoi’s entire history…and possibly a way to kill them. Meanwhile, the Master is out for revenge, unleashing new and even more terrifying breeds of bloodthirsty creatures. They need to find a way to defeat him before the infection spreads too far and becomes irreparable…before they become monsters themselves.
The Strain stars Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Natalie Brown, Miguel Gomez, Max Charles, Ruta Gedmintas, Rupert Penry-Jones, Samantha Mathis and Joaquín Cosío.
Writer/producer J. Michael Straczynski (Thor, World War Z, Sense8) has enjoyed a successful career with his extensive work in films, television series, novels, short stories, comic books and more. The Babylon 5 creator has a knack when it comes to sci-fi and superheroes, working on such titles as The Amazing Spider-Man, Before Watchmen, and Superman. Now he is getting the opportunity to bring one of his own creations, the comic book series ‘Rising Stars,’ to the big screen. (more…)

There’s something magical about the holidays. The brisk night air, the sweet aromas of holiday meals, the giving of gifts, and the pitter-patter of feet from putrified corpses running through the streets. Ahh… the memories!

This being the week of the Electronic & Entertainment Expo (E3), expect to hear a lot from the gaming world. The buzz this year is on new consoles and 4K compatability. It’s been 2 1/2 years since Sony released their PS4 (Nov. 15, 2013), Nintendo’s Wii U has been one year longer than that (November 2012), and Microsoft jumped in on Sony’s action as they debuted the Xbox One exactly one week after the PS4 (Nov. 22, 2013). Well, a day before Microsoft holds their press conference, details have emerged regarding their upcoming reveal of the new Xbox One Slim. They also took this opportunity to reveal ‘Project Scorpio,’ their new 4K gaming console. (more…)
In recent months, we’ve heard chatter about the making of a sequel to Kevin Smith‘s ‘Mallrats’, his second feature film released 21 years ago that starred a whole mess of talented actors. Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Joey Lauren Adams, Michael Rooker, Jason Mewes and Smith himself. Even Stan Lee had an appearance, one much, much longer than anything he’s done in his Marvel cameos. As the months rolled on, we heard more and more of the original cast had signed on to be a part of the sequel. Last count, Smith had nearly everyone game for a reprisal.
So now we have ‘Mallrats 2,’ or rather ‘Mallbrats’as it’s being called, on our minds. What will it be about? What is this new mall like? How will it look seeing everyone 21 years older than the first time? And the big question… WHEN IS IT COMING?! It looks like we have an answer. Smith called in to 93.3 WMMR radio in Philadelphia and chatted with the morning team of Preston and Steve. On the show, Kevin divulged why this has been hanging in limbo and just what the plans are now. (more…)
