Game of Thrones has long made fans understand that no character is safe. George R. R. Martin seemingly kills any character which he sees, doing away with what’s expected and instead putting the characters through a meat grinder as we make our way to the eventual conclusion of the tale. There’s always lots of speculation about who’ll make it to end of each book and even who’ll still be alive by the time we see the end of book 7. It’s all just been theories on internet message boards with nothing to back it up beyond obscure clues and references within the various books themselves. (more…)
Recently we saw some test footage for a potential Deadpool movie. The internet was pretty dang happy. Then, earlier this week it was officially announced that we’d get a Deadpool movie. The internet promptly exploded with glee. We’d gotten a taste of the Merc With A Mouth with Ryan Reynold‘s fantastic portrayal of him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine before they immediately messed up the character, also in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After the the test footage, we had hope that we’d get to see the character done justice in a movie, finally getting the right mix of violence and insanity down. Well, it looks like we’ll get a movie, just maybe not quite what everyone was expecting. (more…)
Now that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is officially locked in as Black Adam for the upcoming Shazam movie, even more details are starting to come out. While it’s interesting that we’re finding out who will be playing the villain in a movie before we even find out who the hero will be and that this will be the first DC/Warner Bros. movie that doesn’t center on one of the main Justice Leaguers, like Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman, that’s not all that is unique about this movie, as New Line president Toby Emmerich revealed today.
Potentially in reaction to everyone’s wish to see him team up with directors other than Tim Burton, Johnny Depp is teaming up with Kevin Smith to make the action-adventure movie Yoga Hosers. The movie marks the second in Smith’s “True North Trilogy”, which began with Tusk and are movies steeped in Canadian culture and mythology. In addition to being the follow up to Tusk, Yoga Hosers will feature the entire cast of Tusk, including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman and Harley Morenstein.
It looks like Playstation’s Powers is getting some of the last big pieces into place. The most recent bit of news is that Sharlto Copley, likely best known for his role in District 9, will be playing the lead of Christian Walker. Walker is one of the two primary characters in the comic series from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, which the show will be an adaptation of. In addition to Copley, Michelle Forbes has joined the cast to play a superheroine known as Retro Girl.
The series will follow two detectives, Walker and his partner Deena Pilgrim, who investigate homicides involving people with superpowers, otherwise known as Powers. Walker was once a Power himself, before losing his powers after a battle with a super-human killer. He now uses his unique perspective to investigate crimes involving the Powers community. (more…)
As someone who’s a part of Hollywood, Jason Momoa obviously has some thoughts on the industry. It also seems he’s not terribly afraid of voicing his discontent, especially when it comes to his as yet unconfirmed role as Aquaman vastly overshadowing his recent film Road to Paloma. Momoa not only starred in Road to Paloma, but directed it as well, obviously making it more of a personal investment than his rumored role as Aquaman. But fans just don’t seem to care all that much, which is what prompted him to take to Instagram and post the below picture: (more…)
It looks like we may see Aquaman a bit more than just his planned appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the planned Justice League film. According to THR, WB has ordered two separate script treatments for an Aquaman movie. Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire) will both be taking a crack at the potential movie. (more…)
Sites all over the internet, sites just like this one, use images from various movies, comics, TV shows, and more for commentary and analysis. The thing that allows them to do so is fair use. It’s pretty nifty, but comic artist Randy Queen seemingly didn’t think so.
Queen took issue with the blog Escher Girls, which points out impossible and unrealistic depictions of women in comics and other media. All the “sexy” poses that don’t look quite right get a bit of attention on the site. Coincidentally, Randy Queen is the artist of Darkchylde and Starfall, two books which are known for just these sorts of depictions. Queen has graced Escher Girls a few times, but recently he seems to have gotten fed up with it. (more…)
As I’m sure we’re all aware, 2015 is going to be a big year for new movies in various film franchises. Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Jurassic World all will be making appearances next year, among other movies, making it a good year to go to the movies. While some, like Mad Max, had a presence at the recent SDCC, others, like Jurassic World, are only just now wrapping up.
Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow took to Twitter to confirm that he’s finished principal shooting on the movie, which picks up right after the first Jurassic Park installment and follows the people running an actual dinosaur amusement park. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard play the leads in the new movie.
Avengers Age of Ultron is hitting theaters in 2015 and Marvel Studios has revealed other planned release dates for years to come. Of the planned dates, we only know a few confirmed films, like Ant-Man on July 17, 2015; Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016; and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on July 28, 2017.
Naturally, one of the announced dates will have to be Avengers 3, but the question is which one? At SDCC, Kevin Feige, when asked about the date announcements, went on to say that we should probably expect 3 years between Avengers movies. (more…)
