As you probably know, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made its Hollywood premiere last night, and the first reactions are coming in from everyone who was at the star studded event. While fans will be forming their own opinions as they go to see the movie themselves in the coming days, it appears that at least for now, everyone can breathe a small sigh of relief, as initial reviews from critics are overwhelmingly positive! Back in 2012, before Lucasfilm was taken over by The Empire Disney, there were two very exciting projects in the works, Star Wars: Underworld, a TV series, and Star Wars: 1313, a video game. After the mouse took over control of Lucasfilm, all projects were stopped or canceled. Or so we thought. In a recent interview, Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president, said that those two projects were something they were “spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, (and) discussing” . This news is a very exciting for those of us who were already looking forward to the new Star Wars installments. (more…)

Earlier this year, Netflix introduced the world to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Hell’s Kitchen. In April, Daredevil debuted exclusively on the streaming service, followed by Jessica Jones in November. Jessica Jones introduced the world to the next character to get their own Netflix series, Luke Cage. Luke Cage is played by Mike Colter, and his series is scheduled to debut next year. Mortal Kombat has given us some very unique and interesting characters over the years. Aside from the DC Universe crossover, 2011’s “Mortal Kombat” game was the first time we saw some outside characters competing with the folks from the Netherrealm. “Mortal Kombat” gave us Jason Vorhees and the Predator, and a trailer for the upcoming DLC for “Mortal Kombat X” shows that this title will continue to follow suit. The trailer was leaked ahead of the official announcement at The Game Awards last night, but was confirmed at the show. A previous DLC pack already featured Freddy Kruger, but the upcoming pack will feature four characters: Bo Rai Cho, Tri-Borg, Leatherface, and the Xenomorph. (more…)

We’ve known about The Shannara Chronicles as an upcoming TV series  for a while, and now we’re getting our first good look at the opening sequence of the show. Based on the Shannara novels by Terry Brooks, television-producer and host channel MTV is hoping the series will be their Game Of Thrones. If the newly-released opening credits scene is any indication, I would say they’ve got a good chance at it. (more…)

For that last 70 plus years, the National Board of Review has compiled an annual list of the best movies from each year. While the NBR’s list is not affiliated with the Academy Awards, the lists are often very similar. In fact, only twice over the last 15 years has the NBR’s Best Film of the Year not been nominated for the same Oscar. While the two are separate, the National Board of Review’s list is a good indication of how the Academy will vote for their awards in January. This year’s National Board list included a few surprises, and it declared Mad Max: Fury Road as the best film of 2015. (more…)
