bryan singer

Yeah, he’s still busy shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past, but Bryan Singer does (in between sending out 100 tweets a day) occasionally manage to get in an interview here and there.  This time around, he chatted it up at a Q&A at The Fantasia International Film Festival, sharing a little insight about his opinions and experiences concerning both the new X-Men flick and the movies of old.  Check out the finer points of what he had to say below:

Singer’s views on the X-Men franchise as a whole:

Singer sees the X-films as being tonally somewhere between The Dark Knight and the typical Marvel flicks.

A little ticked-off about the death of Cyclops in X3.

Pleased that he gets to use Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde.

A few tidbits on Days of Future Past:

Was shot in native 3D.

Sorry folks, Scarlet Witch will not be showing up.

Going to be a darker X-Men film, but the message is a good one.

The majority of DoFP will be taking place in 1973.

The future bits of DoFP occur approximately 10 years after the events in X3.

Characters will be a bit more grown up than in X-Men: First Class.

And some fun facts:

Devoted himself to watching the entire 70 episode run of the X-Men animated series before saddling up for the first flick.

Russell Crowe once offered to play Wolverine, though only if he got to do it bald.  Singer said no, naturally (no word on whether he slapped Crowe across the face afterwards).

Has a secret idea for a Marvel Universe mash-up film, but won’t talk about it.

Once got locked out of the editing room for three days for getting upset and smashing a bottle against the wall.

Believes that super hero films will be around for quite a while, taking on the role of modern mythology.

And that’s all she wrote, folks.  But we can still check out X-Men: Days of Future Past when it comes to the big screen on May 23rd, 2014.

And thanks to JoBlo for helping to spread the love.
