It’s tough to name a successful video game movie, but there’s been at least a couple of good movies that are about video games, and one of them is Wreck-It Ralph. Among the slate of upcoming releases being teased and talked about at D23 is the sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, an adventure that promises to be as big as the internet itself. New details about the film were revealed at the expo, as well a scene that may represent the biggest cartoon character crossover since Who Framed Roger Rabbit

The story will see Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) go where no arcade game character has gone before: the internet. Vanellope’s game, Sugar Rush breaks, down and needs a specific part to be repaired, and as luck would have it, the arcade just recently installed wifi. So with Ralph in tow, Vanellope sets out on an adventure across the internet landscape with the assistance of  “Yesss” (accurate spelling for this instance), who is an algorithm and an editor on a website known as Buzzaholic (that would be a broadside at Buzzfeed). The voice of Yesss will be none other than Empire star and Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson.

That’s the context, and you need to know it order to understand the incomplete footage shown to the audience. While being shown around the internet, Yesss brings Ralph and Vanellope to What follows is proverbial orgy of nerd references including appearances by Star Wars stuff like the Millennium Falcon and C-3PO, Marvel connections like Big Hero 6’s Baymax and a cameo by Stan “The Man” Lee, and, for the coup de grâce, an appearance by a group of Disney princesses all voiced by their original actresses. Ming Na Wen as Mulan, Jodi Bensonas Ariel, Paige O’Hara as Belle, Linda Larkin as Jasmine, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Irene Bedard as Pocahontas, Anika Noni Rose as Tiana, Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Kelly Macdonald as Merida, Kristen Bell as Anna, and Auli’i Cravalho as Moana were all featured in the clip.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be in theatres everywhere on November 21, 2018.
