When Marvel needed someone to script doctor some additional scenes for the upcoming Doctor Strange film starring Benedict Cumberbatch they called on Dan Harmon, creator of co-creator of the fan favorite comedy Community. Harmon is an odd choice but also an inspired one. His off-center comedic style is fantastic when it clicks with the actors involved and Cumberbatch is just the talented actor to pull it off.174196491

While Harmon has done work (Uncredited) on movies before, Kung-Fu Panda and Monster House, he’ll be the first to tell you he hasn’t done much with superheroes. The closest he has come before was when he wore the Iron Man costume pictured above during a Community SDCC panel in 2013.

This kind of move isn’t the first for Marvel, remember the Russo Brothers? Before they took on and knocked it out of the park with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War they were writers on Arrested Development, Happy Endings, and Community. That same brand of humor that Harmon is famous for.

Harmon wasn’t brought on until principle photography was completed and his work involved some additional scenes and photography. This could mean he was involved in whatever after credits scenes or perhaps some scenes in Doctor Strange that needed some lighter, more humorous dialogue.

If the work Harmon did pays off, Marvel would be well advised to let Harmon take a crack at some of Marvel’s funnier heroes… perhaps a girl with squirrel powers?
