Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Game on! Scott Pilgrim just met the girl of his dreams…literally. But in order for them to date, he must defeat her seven evil exes — a rogues’ gallery — including an infamous skateboarder, a vegan rock star and fearsome identical twins! From the genre-smashing director of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead comes “a true original” powered up by wit, action and groundbreaking visuals that you will want to watch again as soon as it’s over!

Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ellen Wong, Chris Evans and Jason Schwartzman.
Directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead)

If you have any love of video games, especially the NES era of gaming, than this film is for you. I can’t recommended this movie enough as it is filled with so many awesome things that could make any nerd smile. If you need further convincing, check out Nick’s review of the flick. Of course, the set is filled with extras on the Blu-Ray as it adds the Adult Swim shorts, variety of behind the scene stuff that ranges from the great music to the visual effects, bloopers, deleted scenes and more. If you were only going to buy one Blu-ray or DVD this year, please make this the one.

Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam

Make your stand against evil with this exciting Collection of 4 DC Showcase Animated Shorts starring favorite DC Comics super heroes! Chosen the world’s protector against the Seven Deadly Enemies of Man–pride, envy, greed, hatred, selfishness, laziness and injustice–young Billy Batson accepts his destiny as Captain Marvel. Battling alongside Superman against nefarious Black Adam, Billy soon discovers the challenge super heroes ultimately face: is it revenge or justice? For bounty hunter Jonah Hex and hard-boiled cop turned vengeance ghost The Spectre, getting their hands dirty is part of the job– maybe even the fun part. But Superman, Green Arrow and Black Canary follow an internal moral code to guide their actions. They know it’s easy to get lost in the darkness of the fight, especially when villans like Merlyn the Magnificent and Count Vertigo place no value on human life.

So in this release, you have three shorts that were already released with other titles but are expended version and then you get the all new Superman/Shazam! short being the main draw. All the shorts so far has been entertaining so far and with the Supes/Shazam! short clocking in at 22 minutes, you may just want to give this a title a rent just so that you have checked it out. As far as extras goes, there are four bonus TV shows that were picked out by Bruce Timm.

Grown Ups

Grown Ups is a comedy about five friends and former teammates who reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn’t mean growing up.

Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade
Directed by Dennis Dugan (You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry)

Yeah, remember the times when Adam Sandler made funny movies? Those were the days and unfortunately, Grown Ups isn’t a comeback to the funny times as it’s more of a paycheck for Sandler’s friends (let’s be honest, more of a paycheck for Schneider who deserves better). Maybe you might find the film hilarious if alcohol is involved but you could always watch something better while being drunk.

Available: Blu-ray/DVD Combo, Blu-ray, DVD
