Batman: Under the Red Hood

Batman faces his ultimate challenge as the mysterious Red Hood takes Gotham City by firestorm. One part vigilante, one part criminal kingpin, Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham with the efficiency of Batman, but without following the same ethical code. Killing is an option. And when the Joker falls in the balance between the two, hard truths are revealed and old wounds are reopened.

Starring: Bruce Greenwood, Jensen Ackles, John DiMaggio, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Isaacs, and Gary Cole.
Directed by Brandon Vietti

Based on the “Under The Hood” and “A Death in the Family” story lines, DC Universe is pumping out another good animation release. If your not familiar with the story line then you’re in a treat with this one. Also, having Joker being voiced by John DiMaggio and Nightwing being voiced by NPH is not a bad thing. The special edition is loaded with extras and an animation short staring Jonah Hex, which I’m sure is a lot better than the live action movie that came out recently.

Available: Blu-Ray/Digital Copy Special Edition, DVD Special Edition

Repo Men

In the futuristic action-thriller, humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called The Union. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don’t pay your bill, The Union sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property… with no concern for your comfort or survival. Remy is one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company’s top-of-the-line heart-replacement… as well as a hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart’s no longer in the job. When he can’t make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy’s former partner Jake, to track him down.

Starring: Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Liev Schreiber, RZA, Alice Braga, and Carice van Houten.
Directed by Miguel Sapochnik

While the movie have been trashed on by most critics, our own Zach gave the movie a chance and ended up loving it, which pretty much means it’s worth checking out at least. If ya got time to waste and want to watch something to waste it on, then Repo Men is for you. It’s got enough things on it to help entertain you and make the time go by.

Clash of the Titans

In Clash of the Titans, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus is helpless to save his family from Hades, vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

Starring: Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Danny Huston, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Jason Flemyng, and Alexa Davalos.
Directed by Louis Leterrier (Transporter 1 & 2, The Incredible Hulk (2008))

Sigh… the movie that could have been awesome with the cast and new CG but ended up being nothing more than a meh. The problem with the movie is that it tries to do too much in a set time length and because of it, it doesn’t do justice to the film and the original it was based on. Check out Zach’s review on the film to further decide if you want to watch this or not.

Available: Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo, DVD

TV Show DVD Worth Checking Out:

Stargate Universe SG-U: 1.5

The electrifying series starring Robert Carlyle returns, presenting a whole new set of challenges for the civilians and military personnel stranded in deep space aboard an aging spaceship. As Dr. Rush (Carlyle) races against time to locate a tracking devise hidden somewhere on the Destiny, he also begins to suspect that a mole for the Alliance has infiltrated the group. Confronting the constant demands of their ship, the crew must also face their personal demons time and again in this powerful adventure that also features Lou Diamond Phillips, Michael Shanks, Richard Dean Anderson and Julia Benson.

Available: 3 Disk Blu-Ray Set, 3 Disk DVD Set

Sabrina The Teenage Witch: The Complete Series

When Sabrina Spellman is informed by her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, that she is a witch on her 16th birthday, she is hesitant to believe them. Having been sent to live with them in Massachusetts by her Warlock father and mortal mother, Sabrina learns the tricks of magic in order to receive her witch’s license. Along the way, she gets into many scrapes while figuring out how certain spells work. She also has to keep the secret from her boyfriend, Harvey, friends Jenny and later Valerie, stuck-up nemesis Libby, and her ever-suspicious vice-principal, Mr. Kraft. The Complete Series Pack includes all Seven Seasons on 24 Discs.

Available: 24 Disk DVD Set

I shouldn’t recommend the first set listed above since it’s a “half season” set that I hate so much but if you don’t like to wait and want some SG-U now, then go ahead and purchase it. Now, if you grew up during the 90’s, ya watched either one of two (or both) Melissa Joan Hart shows. One being Clarissa Explains It All and the other being Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I’m surprise it took this long for the whole Sabrina set to come out. If you were a fan and haven’t been collecting the individual season set, this is the set for you… or you can keep watching the show on ABC Family.

Anime Pick of the Week:

Dragon Ball Season 5

Witness the thrilling conclusion to the adventure of a lifetime! In the aftermath of his epic battle with Piccolo, Goku embarks on an electrifying quest to rescue his fallen friends from the realm of the dead. His perilous journey will take him to the heights of Korin Tower – and beyond – as he searches for Kami, a mystical being with the power to resurrect Shenron and restore the magic of the seven Dragon Balls! But even if Goku succeeds in raising the dead, there’s no guarantee he’ll live long enough to enjoy a reunion with his slain comrades. The World Martial Arts tournament is just around the corner, and an eerily-familiar foe known only as Junior wants to teach Goku the true meaning of pain! To survive the tournament and finally earn the title of World’s Greatest Martial Artist, Goku must train his mind as well as his body in order to complete his amazing transformation from a bushy-tailed boy into a man to be reckoned with!

The final box set under the “blue brick set,” you pretty much get the whole 23rd World Tournament saga in this set, which includes fight that will influence how the fights in DBZ will be. The box set is filled with awesome fights and some good comedy ones in it as well, and hey, by purchasing this box set, we may be able to get out hands on the Dragon Bax version of it some day.

Available: 5 Disk DVD Set

LOL/WTF Release of the Week: This is where we’ll inform you of a movie that is either a rip-off of a current popular franchise or just something really outrageous that had to be mentioned.

Puppet Master: Axis of Evil

In a Stateside hotel during the height of World War II, young Danny Coogan dreams of joining the war effort. Following the murder of hotel guest Mr. Toulon by Nazi assassins, Danny finds the old man’s crate of mysterious puppets and is suddenly thrust into a battle all his own. He discovers that Nazis Max and Klaus, along with beautiful Japanese saboteur Ozu, plan to attack a secret American manufacturing plant. After his family is attacked and his girlfriend Beth is kidnapped, it is up to Danny and the deadly living Puppets to stop this Axis of Evil…

I don’t know about most of you guys, but I am a fan of the Puppet Master franchise. Being young, I liked the films where the puppets were the good guy for some reason and this movie is no different as we get to see them go off against one of the greatest evil the world has seen… the Nazi’s and the Axis. That’s right, puppets vs. Nazi’s. I know some of you will be saying the WTF at the title and thus it is the LOL/WTF release of the week.
