It’s been a long wait (or at least it’s felt like it), and we can’t wait to see the Fast and Furious franchise again. After the tragic death of Paul Walker, many thought that Furious 7 would be the final film in the franchise. However, Furious 7‘s cliffhanger ending certainly leaves room for a sequel, and everyone’s favorite high-octane family is set to storm New York City in April, 2017. Vin Diesel and Jason Statham are set to return for the film, and the cast just got even bigger. Ever wondered what would happen if the worlds of Mad Max and Fast and Furious collided? Well you’re about to find out, because Furiosa herself has officially joined the cast.
Variety initially reported today that Charlize Theron has officially joined the cast of Fast 8. At first, Variety’s sources were unsure about what kind of character Theron would be playing. After Variety reported her casting though, the Fast and Furious franchise’s official Twitter account confirmed that she is playing a villain:

If you ask us, Ms. Theron is an excellent choice for the franchise. She not only has experience in villainous roles (Snow White & The Huntsman), but she is no stranger to fast-paced vehicle-driven movies either (Mad Max: Fury Road). She has the tough, bad-ass attitude that the franchise requires, and we’re looking forward to a balls-to-the-wall battle between her and Michelle Rodriguez. While her newest film, Huntsman: Winter’s War, is getting some pretty harsh early reviews, we can still look forward to her performance in Fast 8. She will also be the first Academy Award winner to grace the franchise.
Fast 8 will be directed by Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray, and is set for release on April 14, 2017.
