It’s got violence, it’s got blood and it was the first fighting game you tried playing in real life only to get suspended from school (guilty). Now the world of kicks, punches and fatalities we know as Mortal Kombat is almost here for the world to enjoy in the live-action Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. A  gritty, real-world approach to the fun but completely preposterous, fantastical fighting game. It started out as a fan short that garnered over 10 million views worldwide and now it’s one of the most anticipated series to date.

Director Kevin Tancharoen has been doing a lot of updating of his Twitter the last few days, offering us a hand full of new photos and sneak peaks at fan favorite characters. While the first episode is only days away ( April 12th on Machinima.), we’re uncertain when the likes of Baraka, Raiden, Sub-Zero and Scorpion will make their appearances. I kinda ruined it in the title picture above, but HIT THE JUMP for a closer look at these grounded-in-reality versions.

Considered by many as the heart and soul of the Mortal Kombat universe Lord Raiden, God of  thunder and protector of Earthrealm, will have an important part to play in everything. Forget all that you’ve seen of the original movies and the video games as this Raiden, played by Ryan Robbins, has a very different look to him in this incarnation. Clearly emulating Jacob from LOST.

With each episode giving new insight into a different character who better to have a story then the ice-wielding ninja Sub-Zero. He looks way different then the version from the short film but who cares, Sub-Zero is back in action being played by Kevan Ohtsji.

Coming personally from  Kevin himself he Tweeted an  up close image of the arm bladed Baraka, played by professional wrestler Fraser Aitcheson.

Reprising his from the original short Ian Anthony Dale is back as  Hanzo Hasashi, codename: Scorpion. Another shot from twitter thanks to kevin, it seems that Scorpion won’t be shooting the spears from his hands but that’s a good thing.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy stars  Michael Jai White, Jeri Ryan, Ian Anthony Dale, Darren Shahlavi, Ryan Robbins, Matt Mullins, Tahmoh Penikett, Shane Warren Jones, Peter Shinkoda, Tracy Spiridakos and Beatrice King. Hitting the web face first April 12th, get the plastic sheets up now.
