Fox’s ‘Rocky Horror’ Remake Gets a Trailer!

Who would have imagined that 41 years after the biggest cult classic debuted, there would indeed be a made-for-tv remake of said beloved classic? That’s right, we’re talking about The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and yes, Fox picked it up. Kenny Ortega, director of High School Musical, will be directing this take on the classic 1973 film, which was firstly adapted from the Broadway show of the same name. Just when you thought Rocky Horror was a sacred cinema cow that couldn’t be touched, along comes this new trailer for the Fox production that asks, Could you be wrong?

The film has an all-star cast consisting of Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black) as Dr. Frankenfurter, Adam Lambert as Eddie, and Christina Milian as Magenta. The biggest surprise as news was being released these past few months is that original cast member, Tim Curry is going to be back playing the narrator of the story, The Criminologist.

In the first full trailer, which was released at San Diego Comic Con, we see that it will also include the iconic ‘audience participation’ that started when the film began being run at midnight in rep theaters everywhere. Shadowcasts have also become very popula with this film. A ‘shadowcast’ is when actors in the community will learn the moves of the film, get costumed up, and act the film out in front of a big screen that is also playing the movie, and because shadowcasts and consistent screenings over four decades, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most popular box office bombs of all time.

In another view, it has been said that when creator, Richard O’Brien was asked his opinion about the remake he stated, “I would like to stay detached from it. It’s just something for those people to do … I don’t want to wade in and damn them before they have had a chance to show what they can do. I don’t want to be antsy or cheesed off about it.” It was also said that he didn’t particularly think it was cast correctly. It will be interesting to see if the original creator, writer, and director’s concerns about the film are valid.

You can view the new trailer for Fox’s, Rocky Horror Picture Show now. The premiere date will be October 20, 2016 on Fox. Don’t forget to attend the late night, double feature, picture show…
