That’s them. While this is still a Jim Henson Company show–just like the Fraggle Rock I grew up with and adored–THESE Doozers are CGI, not Muppets. Plus online video streaming service Hulu, who will be featuring the new series, seems to have the preschool audience in mind pretty exclusively. See the trailer and hear more from the Ghost Of Children’s Programming Past after the jump.

Like I said, I grew up with Fraggle Rock, and the Doozers were one of my favorite parts of the show.

For those of you who are not acquainted with them, the Doozers are little green workmen (and women) who spend their lives building intricate structures and buildings out of “Doozer Sticks”. This is what Doozers do….this is ALL Doozers do.

Unfortunately, Doozer sticks are a Fraggle delicacy, and inevitably, as soon as the Doozers have completed one of their magnificent architectural achievements, a Fraggle will come along, and callously destroy and eat it.

The Doozers have learned to live with this–and the fact that the fruits of their labors will always be wrecked and consumed by the Fraggles NEVER dampens their spirits, decreases their productivity, or makes them doubt the ultimate meaning of their work and their lives….

It’s a pretty heavy existential metaphor for a children’s series about puppets.

Those are the Doozers I grew up with–and that’s one of the Doozer stick buildings they’ve poured their blood, sweat, and tears into making–all the time entirely aware that their efforts will never be more than Fraggle Chow.

Ok, maybe I’m taking this a bit seriously–but the Doozers and the absurdity of their existence made a BIG impression on me as a child.

Below is the trailer for the new Hulu series…and as I’m over 5 years old, I do not think it would be fair for me to judge it.

I’ll just say that as far as I can tell, it’s not gonna make anyone–regardless of age–ponder the nature of reality and the purpose of being.

Doozers comes to Hulu April 25.
