‘Game of Thrones’ Gets a Second Season

The L.A. Times is reporting that HBO’s Game of Thrones has been renewed for a second season on the strength of premiere night ratings that topped 4 million viewers Sunday.

The decision comes as  cause to rejoice for millions of fantasy geeks who were pulling for the show, and vindicates the series after lots of internet speculation about its marketability in the days leading up to the premiere.

“We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin’s amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers,” Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming, said in a statement. “This is the continuation of an exciting creative partnership.”

So, winter will most certainly come again next year, presumably in the form of a television adaptation of Martin’s second Song of Ice and Fire novel, A Clash of Kings. Long live Westeros!
