I was really hoping that someone had photo-shopped an Iron Throne made out of Emmys instead of swords because it would be very apropos to Game of Thrones virtual sweep last night at the 67th Annual Emmy Awards. The HBO series grabbed 12 Emmy Awards last night, breaking West Wing‘s (1st Season) 9 Emmy award wins in 2000 for a single season. Game of Thrones had earlier won 8 Emmy awards at the Creative Arts Emmys which celebrates technical and other similar achievements in American television programming. Which four did the series win last night to push them over the top?

Peter Dinklage won Outstanding Supporting Actor for a second time (2011), he’s been nominated in the category every year since the series began.

David Benioff and Dan Weiss won Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, and David Nutter also won Outstanding Direction in a Drama Series.

Game of Thrones went on to win the big dog of the night in the Outstanding Drama Series category. It was an emotional Tracy Morgan making his return to television since his accident last year who presented the award.

The 2015 Creative Arts Emmys won:

Outstanding Make-Up for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic)

Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More)

Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series (“Hardhome”)

Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Scripted Series (“Hardhome”)

Outstanding Special Visual Effects (“The Dance of Dragons”)

Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series

With at least another two years in the series, Game of Thrones is sure to break a few more Emmy records as it closes in on the record for most Emmy wins for a series.
