While making the RoboCop reboot publicity rounds, Gary Oldman recently talked about his upcoming role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. What kind of character does he play?

MTV News sat down with Oldman and asked about the upcoming sequel to Planet of the Apes. Oldman talks about his character, Dreyfus, the “designated leader” of the surviving humans. He goes on to explain why his character makes the decision to wipe out the community of apes they find living near a much-needed power station.

I started to transcribe what he says on the video for you, but then I realized, I could listen to Oldman talk all day and you should hear this in his own words, right from his lips. I wish the powers that be would do one of those Actor’s Studio episodes with him.

Check out the video below. It looks like director Matt Reeves is going to use a lot of the original Battle for the Planet of the Apes material as the basis for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I really hope we get the “Ape shall not kill Ape” scene. Tragic as it was, it really set the tone for the original series.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theater screens on July 11th.
