Momoa Aquaman

Justice League reportedly started shooting mere days after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theatres, but we’ve seen and heard precious little in the interim. So when Jason Momoa, who will portray Aquaman in the movie, goes and puts an image on their Instagram account, it’s certain to arouse a lot of interest.

Momoa was supporting the #RezpectOurWater initiative, the campaign that opposes the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline through the Missouri and Cannon Ball River. Critics argue that this could threaten water supplies and surrounding land through the threat of an oil leak or another, similar ecological accident. Someone should tell Momoa that’s not how you spell respect, but it won’t be us; the guy looks lean and mean in his full Aquaman tattoos and beard.

The cynical amongst you might argue that it’s nothing more than opportune marketing for Momoa/Warner Bros. to support this but you can’t argue it’s a good fit. Native Hawaiian Momoa had this to say:

“I support the #NativeYouth of #StandingRockRez. I signed the petition to stop the #DakotaAccessPipeline, your turn click on the link in my bio. Please take a second to check out what’s happening. Mahalo EZRA @panterasarah and shai. For spreading the awareness ALOHA j.”

Recent reports have of unhappiness and discord between Justice League director Zack Snyder and head honchos at Warner Bros. have surfaced online, the result of, apparently, the poor critical response Batman v Superman received. There are also rumours that even with a box office of $860 million (and counting), the film is somewhat of a failure as it still has a long way to go to the magic $1 billion mark. It will be interesting to see how these stories pan out; seldom is there smoke without fire around a huge tentpole movie.

Justice League is currently shooting at Leavesden Studios, England and on location, and is scheduled to hit screens November 17, 2017.
