As most Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. viewers know (or, at least, should know), tonight’s episode will be based around the fall out from Thor: The Dark World, and such a crossover has led many to wonder, “What other tie-ins will we see?” Fortunately, Jed Whedon, Joss’ brother and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer, took to filling us in on what might be in the show’s future, which could include a cameo from a huge Marvel name.

In terms of what we can expect from tonight’s crossover episode, Whedon explains that Coulson’s team is going to sift through the fallout of Thor’s latest adventure, saying, “We’re in charge of the clean-up.” If anyone out there hasn’t seen the movie and plans on watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. tonight (No? Just me?), you’ve still got a few hours to do so.

We spilled into more of the ancient aspects into Asgardians and how they visited us long ago, so we get into a little bit of that aspect of Asgard and how it’s affected our planet in the past and currently.

Whedon touches on the possibility of the show linking up with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in a similar manner to Thor: The Dark World. It’s something that’s been rumored for a while, and it only makes sense to have another crossover, so it’s not surprising that Whedon all but confirms that this will happen.

Nick Fury is in that [Captain America: The Winter Soldier], and S.H.I.E.L.D. makes an appearance, so we will definitely try to tee-up some stuff and probably play a little bit of the fallout from that film. We’re hoping to do some cool stuff.

Personally, I love the idea of intertwining stories that the show continues from the MCU, but I worry that if they continue to focus on the stories of the movies, it’ll take away from the show.

Another thing that was brought up is whether or not S.H.I.E.L.D. co-creator and comic book legend Stan Lee would make a cameo in the show, like he has in just about every other Marvel movie ever, to which Whedon replied “I would say there’s a strong chance.” Seems like it’s only a matter of time before Stan makes his small-screen MCU debut; honestly, I’d be surprised if he didn’t show up before the end of the first season.
