Jeez Marvel, same some stuff for Comic Con… Seriously, it’s been a jam-packed week for Marvel news, and not just of the big screen variety. After revealing the new, female version of Thor on The View, and new Captain America Sam Wilson on The Colbert Report, Marvel is now revealing the new Avengers line-up that will be coming to a comic book show near you this fall. The watch word for this new line-up: diversity.

As you can note in the above image, this new Avengers team seems to be about good demographics, of its 10 members, four are women and two are black. If you want to break that down further, you can also say that the team has four aliens, two cyborgs and a mutant too.

So who makes the cut? We’ll in case you can’t tell with all the costume changes, or maybe you haven’t read the actual Avengers comics in a while, the team includes:

Top Row (left to right): Medusa of the Inhumans, the mutant hero Scarlet Witch, the recently upgraded Iron Man, Sorcerer Supreme Dr. Strange, and Ant Man (not sure which one, but likely Scott Lang).

Bottom Row (left to right): The Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes, former Image Comics character Angela, the all new female Thor, Captain America Sam Wilson (formally The Falcon), the Inhuman Inferno, and Deathlok (obviously inspired by the J. August Richards rendition of the character on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Initial internet reaction has been swift and brutal with many exerting anger at Marvel for going overboard with the upgrades and putting political correctness above tradition, or even logic. Call be crazy, but this is a team shake-up that makes sense. If you’re going to rejigger the whole thing, do it with gusto and an understandable goal! Besides, if you don’t like the Avengers line-up now (heh) wait a year to 18 months and we will inevitably get a new team.
