Attack On Titan and the Marvel Universe couldn’t be more different from each other. One’s an exceedingly popular anime title that seems to be gaining more steam by the day. The other’s the Marvel Universe, and if you need a breakdown of that, then leave this site immediately. Either way, one couldn’t be more different than the other. Marvel’s superhero vs. supervillain plan is a simple one: one fights the other. Attack On Titan is a bleak Japanese series where humans live in fear behind giant walls as protection against humongous monsters trying to eat them. Exactly what kind of gumbo are they trying to cook up by mixing these two entities together? I don’t know, but it’s gonna be effing badass because both are on one hell of a roll.

The following report was tweeted by Marvel talent scout C.B. Cebulski after several teases about the potential partnership. According to the tweets, we’re looking at a team-up between AOT and Spider-Man. Maybe more, we don’t know. Look at his tweets below to see how this played out:

“Three days in Tokyo is never enough but the trip was a super success. Big news coming soon that will blow the minds of @Marvel & manga fans!”

Okay, normal message where you just kinda throw the hook in the water. Next…

“I loved “Marvel Team-Up” and “What If?” as a kid. I would spend hours dreaming up my own crossovers & alternate reality stories. (cont.)”

“As I got more into manga, I always imagined how cool it would be for the Marvel characters to cross into the pages of manga worlds. (cont.)”

“For many decades & multiple reasons, almost no manga, especially popular titles, crossed into other comic universes… until now! (cont.)”

And that’s when the fish understand that there’s a nice chunk of lobster meat bobbing around under the lure.

“If you ever wondered, “What if the titans from Hajime Isayama’s “Attack on Titan”  attacked the Marvel universe?”, you’ll find out soon!!”

The fish are all like “bullshit, this must be a joke.” And then the angler drops the bomb:

This is completely ridiculous in the most awesome possible way. Awesome in that it’s not just lobster, it’s Duff Beer and Cheezy Poofs too. This is going to be fun. Yet, ridiculous in that Marvel has touched on anime a few times (see their Madhouse partnership), but never actually “went there” per se. The world it builds is very clear and, aside from the occasional dip into DC’s and other comic realms, the company has made it a point not to play in too many strange backyards. Melding the two dimensions is the same thing as pouring chocolate on your t-bone steak. Both are delicious but don’t really mesh. What kind of storyline could we be thinking about here? Back to that gumbo for speculation…

Somehow the monsters get warped into the Marvel Universe and heroes Eren and Mikasa (and friends) chase them here to aid in their destruction. Along comes Spidey and he’s gotta check before they wreck. Assuming it’s just Spidey. That art could be a precursor to amazing things coming in two weeks that might include the whole MU. That means the Avengers will have to help take down this threat, the Fantastic Four will have something to do, enter the X-Men, etc. Once again, bye bye New York City. Well you know what? SCREW THAT!!

Do something different! For whatever reason, the heroes are transported to this alternate universe and we’ll see some really weird shit go down. Put the Marvel Universe into the Titan universe and show us what heroes are made of when faced with that kind of sublime ugly. Captain America isn’t used to monsters trying to eat him. Goliath seldom fights anything his own size. Battleworld would seem like a vacation after Attack On Titan’s surreal freakiness. But we don’t know which one will go down because he talks about Marvel crossing into Manga, then mentions Titan attacking the Marvel Universe. It’s a toss-up.

But the most important things to take note of here are the long term possibilities. Marvel has no shortage of storylines to bring to film, but what if the Marvel Cinematic Universe were to combine with the cinematic stylings of AOT? We already know that Attack On Titan has 2 films in the works starring Haruma Miura, Hiroki Hasegawa and Kiko Mizuhara. Because somebody smart knows how to cast anime with Japanese people (though Titan could be set anywhere.) That Marvel could expand on their already epic movie deliveries by including the anime giant is enough to make one’s head explode. But it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Marvel had already thought of that…

Keep your eyes open for two weeks from now. Apparently we’ll get bigger news then.
