It’s safe to say that most everyone loves Mythbusters. Hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman bust myths, tall tales, misconceptions, and internet viral videos; all in the name of science and discovery. Really, though, they just get a chance to do all sorts of cool shit with high explosives, firearms, and vehicles normal humans would never be allowed to.

Now, take what Adam and Jamie do for a living and imagine that was just a front – that the dynamic duo were actually secret spies for the government using their skills for covert ops. What a silly thought, right? Except its not.

CBS has announced it is developing a new spy drama based on the professional exploits of Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. Oh, boy.

According to THR, the plot of the show is as follows:

“The untitled drama, which has received a script commitment from the network, revolves around two Hollywood special effects artists who are recruited by the CIA to complete seemingly impossible covert ops missions by creatively using the most basic tools from their craft.”

Adam and Jamie will serve as executive producers on the project with Suits writers Lilla and Nora Zuckerman writing the script and serving as showrunners should it go to series.

As an out-of-left filed as this pitch sounds, it does have some precedent to it. Both Adam and Jamie are very entertaining and are characters onto themselves.

Hyneman is a special effects expert with a degree in Russian linguistics who has worked as a certified dive master, wilderness survival expert, boat captain, linguist, animal wrangler and chef. Savage, an industrial design and special effects designer/fabricator who has also worked as an animator, graphic designer, carpenter, projectionist, toy designer and more. He has also taught courses on advanced model making at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
You got two guys with interesting backgrounds, as well as having two distinct personalities. Adam is the animated and talky one with big ideas –  where Jamie is quite, mysterious, and methodical. Even more so, the two have gone on record saying that while they have a working respect for each other, they are not friends and really can’t stand each other.

This show sounds like the Odd Couple meets MacGyver. OK, that’s kind of cool actually.
