POW! The Arrow-verse To Meet Batwoman in Gotham

In Detective Comics #233 (July 1956) a new character joined the pantheon of characters.  DC introduced a female counterpart to Batman, Batwoman.  Originally created to be a love interest for Batman who had a utility purse instead of the belt Batman wore.  She had weapons disguised as feminine products such as lipstick, compacts, charm bracelets and hairnets.  The character was removed from the series when Batgirl/Barbara Gordon was created.  But Kathy Kane would return to the comics, and now it looks like she’ll be coming to TV screens too.

Arrow has stayed away from outright confirmation that there is a Batman in the Arrowverse until this past season when Gotham and Batman were both mentioned.  Arrow has often presented Oliver as Batman with a bow and arrow.  Some of the rogues gallery from Gotham have made appearances (including The Huntress and the al Ghul family).

Stephen Amell and CW CEO Mark Pedowitz announced at the CW upfronts that there would be a four-way crossover between ArrowFlashLegends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.

“We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we’ll be introducing a new character,” Amell said. “For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. If the crossover is going to make it to air in December, I need to leave right now and start filming it.”

“This is the first time ever that Batwoman will make a live-action appearance on any screen,”  Pedowitz added.

Batwoman has previously appeared in animated form on Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Batman: Mystery of the BatwomanBatman Vs. Robin, and Batman: Bad Blood.

All four CW shows air on consecutive nights next season (Sunday through Tuesday).  That should make it more convenient for fans to see the whole story arc.

The fact that this crossover would occur in Gotham City and have an appearance by Batwoman has already begun fueling rumors.  Will it be the modern Kate Kane of the modern comics?  Is the appearance in the crossover a tease for a possible Batwoman solo show?
