Thor: Ragnarok is still almost two years away from its release, but it seems like we’re getting a lot of news lately about what to expect from the film. Here’s what we know: Mark Ruffalo will appear as Bruce Banner/The Hulk and the plot will involve some kind of “road trip” in space. Here’s what we know that’s yet to be officially confirmed: Cate Blanchett will be playing the villain, likely Hela the ruler of the Underworld, and the plot may possibly be about her destroying Mjolnir. Now let’s take a real leap, as the internet gives us a rumor that’s particularly more difficult to swallow, that Marvel will somehow turn Thor 3 into Planet Hulk., which has had some compelling scoops lately but has yet to be really tested, got this story about what the plot for Thor: Ragnarok might look like. Apparently, it will begin with Thor losing Mjolnir, and being banished to a planet full of alien gladiators. In order to get back to Asgard to fight Loki and Hela and save his world, Thor must first defeat all the other warriors in the arena, including the present champion, the Incredible Hulk!

“[Banner]’s managed to avoid reverting back to the Banner state since we last saw him in the Quinjet in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Hulk in Hulk form is pretty much unkillable, so he survived the trip to Sakaar (however he got there). His ‘Banner’ is starting to seep through into the Hulk persona, and because of the Hulk-Banner melding, Hulk actually remembers Thor and his relationship to him. That’s what starts the two on a Midnight Run to the MacGuffin that Thor desperately needs.” may have gone a bridge too far this time. Ever since Ruffalo won hearts and minds as the face of the Hulk in The Avengers, there’s been enormous demand for another Hulk movie, and not just any Hulk movie, but a Planet Hulk movie! The open-ended nature of the Hulk’s fate in Age of Ultron only prompted more of these rumors because where else would Hulk go in a cloaked Quinjet but Sakaar? Hoping for a Planet Hulk movie is one thing, but smashing a Planet Hulk movie into Thor 3 seems very unlikely, and it could squander the opportunity to make a genuine Planet Hulk movie someday. For now, let’s film this rumor under: “Suspicious”.

Thor: Ragnarok will be in theaters everywhere on November 3, 2017.
