Despite Marvel’s best efforts, it has been confirmed that Spider-Man makes an appearance in Captain America: Civil War. During a recent visit to the set, Entertainment Weekly saw the newest incarnation, Tom Holland, in the full red and blue costume. While producer Kevin Feige attempted to pass the sighting off as a possible cosplayer and Chris Evans wouldn’t confirm it, Robert Downey, Jr. had no such compulsion to remain quiet. Not only was he spotted walking around with Holland on the set, he mentioned the character by name in a later interview.

“We’re now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the [canon]. But we’re also looking around like, ‘Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man…?’ I mean it’s like wow, this thing is just crazy,” he admitted.

The relationship may go both ways, according to Wired. Iron Man and Captain America are rumored to be included in the next Spider-Man movie. This is based on conversations with both Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. mentioning an upcoming Atlanta film shoot. The latest Spider-Man reboot is slated to being shooting in Atlanta in 2016.

Evans deflected the question of Spider-Man by stating Marvel shoots a lot of footage and not all of it makes the final film. Fans may have to wait until post-production and promotion begins for the official confirmation of Spider-Man, Iron Man and Captain America sharing screen time.

One thing is certain, though; if RDJ had been in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, everyone would know the complete plot by now.
