Perhaps those of you frustrated by lack of IMAX facilities in your home town, and thus fuming about the inclusion of 9-minutes of Star Trek: Into Darkness preceding the IMAX screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, can take heart that your regular, 2-D or 3-D theater will be running some kind of Star Trek before The Hobbit, the film’s first trailer. is the one reporting this news confirming that the 9-minute IMAX prologue will be the first 9 minutes of the film. The trailer, meanwhile, will be of the traditional mold, highlights and clips from the movie. The website is also reporting that the trailer will bow online the following Monday before being played in front of other movies including Paramount’s own Jack Reacher.

Looking for comment about what the prologue might entail, TrekMovie went to Captain Kirk himself, actor Chris Pine.

The thing with JJ [Abrams] is that he’s like the master puppeteer, so it’s like none of us know anything, I didn’t know that it was going to be shown, I don’t know what the footage is, what’s exciting for that for me is that I get excited so I want to go to the theater to just to check it out. I’m excited for people to see this movie, it’s bigger than the last one, we have a great villain, I can’t wait until it’s released.

That was helpful. About as helpful as this Abrams’ appearance on Conan O’Brien a couple of months ago.

Naturally, when the Into Darkness trailer hits the interweb, you will find it here on Nerd Bastards.
