For any British actor, it’s hard to think of a bigger TV role than that of the Doctor, the time traveling alien from Doctor Who that can change faces as easily as other people change jackets. Every couple of years, the speculation begins agains as to who will take up the console in the TARDIS and take off again for more adventures in time and space, and we’re seeing that process play out again now with expectant departure of Peter Capaldi in this year’s Christmas special. There is one name we can safely eliminate from the list though. He’s turned down the job twice already. (more…)

Of all the mutants shoe-horned into the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, it felt like director Bryan Singer might have forgotten a couple of fan-favorites. If you are a Nightcrawler or Gambit fan, you might have been left thinking that Singer was slapping you in the face, especially since both the German teleporter and the Cajun card-tosser have both appeared in previous X-Men films. But no offense was indented, and now, according to the director himself, their may be room for both Nightcrawler and Gambit in the next X-Men film, 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. (more…)

 I am not much of a book reader, so I don’t know much about Philip Jose Farmers’ Riverworld novels but I hear they are quite good. However, I do know that the SYFY channel has adapted the series for a new 4-part TV movie. Readers of the series are pissed because they believe a faithful adaptation is damn near impossible and just shouldn’t be attempted. They’re also angry that adaptation scribe Robert Hewitt Wolfe (Star Trek Deep Space Nine) doesn’t seem to give a shit about ditching the original story lines and changing the characters around. As with any literature adaptation it’s bound to alienate a few members of the core audience, but I say give it a shot. Riverworld is a huge undertaking for SYFY and I’m pretty sure they don’t want to screw it up. To calm skepticism, and to exicite the rest of us, a few stills featuring lead stars Tahmoh Penikett and Alan Cumming have hit the net. (check out io9 for the gallery)
