There was a lot of hype around Prometheus before it was released in the Summer of 2012. Fans wondered what mysteries would be revealed in the film, who was the space jockey, where did the xenomprphs come from, and why was the company so obsessed with them? In the end though, those questions were only barely half answered, and even with those partial answers, most fans just wished that Ridley Scott hadn’t tried in the first place. But if you were one of those people disappointed in the non-answers of Prometheus, Scott says don’t worry, answers will be made available in the upcoming sequel, Alien: Paradise Lost. (more…)

It was a tremendous shock when earlier this year District 9 director Neill Blomkamp posted to Instagram a number of pieces of concept art for a new Alien film; and it was even more of a shock when, a short time after that, Twentieth Century Fox said they were greenlighting Blomkamp’s vision for the franchise’s new entry. Then Chappie crashed and burned, and there was an imperative for Blomkamp to deliver not just a great chapter of the Alien saga, but to salvage some of that District 9 mojo. But now there’s mojo-interuptus as Blomkamp’s Alien has had to take a back seat to Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus 2 Alien: Paradise Lost. (more…)

There’s probably been more discussion of Prometheus 2 in the last two weeks than in the last three years combined. So after several reveals including a February start date for the sequel, the return of Michael Fassbender, and the possibility of two or three more Prometheus movies to come, director Ridley Scott upped the ante yesterday when he announced that Prometheus 2 now has a very different title. Prometheus may have had a tacit connection to the Alien universe of films in the past, but by announcing that Prometheus 2 will be called Alien: Paradise Lost, Scott is sending a signal that his next project is going to be that much more connected to his 1979 classic.
