American Dad

‘American Dad’ Moving to TBS in 2014

AMERICAN DAD: From "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane comes the animated story of STAN SMITH, who works for the CIA and is constantly on the alert for terrorist activity. Stan will go to extremes to protect his beloved America from harm in the new FOX animated series AMERICAN DAD premiering Sunday, May 1 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. TBS is at it again, collecting the sloppy seconds from broadcast networks and building their own prime time line-ups. Deadline is reporting that Seth MacFarlane-produced series American Dad is leaving Fox’s “Animation Domination” block on Sunday nights and taking up residence on basic cable.

American Dad will officially make the move to TBS in 2014 (presumably in the fall of 2014 after the series final season on Fox) with a 15-episode order. American Dad premiered in 2005 shortly after the return of Family Guy to the Fox line-up. It helped cement MacFarlane as one of Fox’s top, in-house producers and helped lead McFarlane to dominating the “Animation Domination” Sunday line-up with the addition of The Cleveland Show. Fox didn’t order any more episodes of  The Cleveland Show last spring, but the series still has episodes in the pipe.

There’s no official statement from Fox or MacFarlane yet, or any word on how this is going to impact the Sunday animation line-up. More news as it develops.

Squee! San Diego Comic Con, the media mecca for comics, movies, television, video games, toys and more, is a little over 4 weeks a way (July 21-24) . Good lord we can’t wait! Oh, FYI NerdBastards will be in attendance. Luke Gallagher and Mrs. NerdBastards (aka Luke’s mistress, life coach and supplier of NOMs) Crystal H. will be doing some field reporting, schmoozing with celebs, and procuring as much swag as we can. We’ll also be on hand to meet with any NB fans in attendance. Come say hi (Will be wearing NB t-shirts, as scene on splitreason.com). Tell us how much you love us, or how much you hate us. Either way, we’re happy to meet you. Though, if you say some shit, that nullifies your chances of getting any free fan appreciation swag from us. Also,  warning to the busty nerdy girlies out there, Luke is a weak and very perverted man. Stay at-least 5 feet away.

Anyway, as the dates come closer and closer, news on guest appearances, panels and other festivities will be rolling out. At the moment, thanks to TV Line, we have a list of what TV shows and stars will be in attendance.

HIT THE JUMP for the run-down.

I can already hear the griping, “What another childhood property being rebooted?!” “That Family Guy dude is bringing us the Flintstones?!!” “Blasphemy!” “Sacrilege!” But I would like you to recall the god-awful, piles of stinky crap, live-action films from 1994 and 2000. If anything, The Flintstones need to do some serious pennance before they wander back in to your good graces. Is Seth MacFarlane the man for the job? I don’t know, but in FOX’s eyes he rakes in mountains of cash and that’s all they need to know.

Originally FOX seemed a little hesitant about handing the reins of the stone age family cartoon over to MacFarlane, but now Deadline has confirmed he will be rebooting The Flintstones “as a TV and film property.” But that’s all we know, hopefully soon we’ll hear an announcement with some more concrete details, maybe even from MacFarlane or his people. But in the meantime, what do you think about a MacFarlane Flintstones cartoon?

I know MacFarlane is mostly associated with the crude and offbeat humor of Family Guy and American Dad, which some may not think is suitable for the family cartoon. But if you watch his shows closely you’ll notice a real appreciation for cartoon and film history. Granted, more often than not those classic toons or movies are mentioned in an off-the-wall, demented fashion, but in order for th0se jokes to be funny there needs to be an understanding of the source material, which MacFarlane has. So I’m hopeful in his reboot. Like I said earlier, The Flintstones need to go off on a better note than Viva Rock Vegas. Really, it’s a shitty, shitty film. The Flintstones deserve better.
