Even though Logan is breaking box office records, and Fox has no plans for stopping their mutant-related movies, the X-Men universe is finding a new life on the small screen. The FX show Legion is mind-bendingly good and is receiving acclaim week after week in detailing the adventures of David Haller, as he is figuring out about his powers (as well as dealing with his perceived insanity). Fox is also in the process of making another show centered in the X-Men universe. Fox ordered a pilot for a show surrounding parents who utilize an underground network of mutants to protect their child from government agents as they discover she has powers. Trueblood’s Stephen Moyer and Person of Interest’s Amy Acker will headline the series as parents trying to protect their child. Other notable casting has included Emma Dumont, Jamie Chung, Coby Bell and many others to the show. The Matt Nix run show has for the time been called the “Untitled X-Men” show. Now it looks like they have a title.
It’s been a very busy week for casting on superhero TV series, a real battle of the network comic book show stars. The latest round today concerns Fox‘s untitled “mutants on the run” series based on the X-Men, and this announcement features its nerdiest addition yet: Amy Acker. You may know her as Fred from Angel, or as Root in Person of Interest, or maybe your know her as Whisky in Dollhouse, Beatrice in Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Noting, the villainous Kelly Peyton in Alias, or Coulson’s beloved cellist in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but now Amy Acker will play the mom of mutants on the run from Johnny Law in the new X-Men-based series. Person of Interest is perhaps the best nerdy show on TV you’re not watching. Why? Maybe it’s because of the procedural elements, or maybe because it’s on CBS, but whatever the reason you’re not watching, you’re robbing yourself of the pleasure of one TV’s most underappreciated treasures. But now there are no more excuses. The first three seasons of Person of Interest are now available on Netflix, and then on Tuesday, you can watch the entirety of season four when its added to the streaming service. (more…)
There are so many actors connected to Joss Whedon, but not many are so indelibly associated with his work as Amy Acker. From Angel to Dollhouse to Much Ado About Nothing, she seems more or less to be on Whedon’s speed dial. These days however, Acker is just as well known for playing Root, a hacker without much morality changing her ways as the human face of an all-knowing artificial intelligence on Person of Interest. On stage at Fan Expo though, Acker reminded one more of her Angel role Winifred Burkle – shy, reserved and a little bit silly. (more…)
They are two best friends, Firefly alum, and probably the only two guys that can get both nerdy boys and girls to drop their underoos with burning man desire. They are Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion. These two well known stars of TV and film have been around the Convention circuit offering their stories, egos, and devilishly handsome looks to elated fans. Now they’re now using their experience with cons to transform the weird and wonderful world of conventions into a web series. It’s called Con Man and will be written, directed and star Tudyk with Fillion co-starring as well as producing.
The series focuses on the actors’ experiences after their show’s cancellation, as they make their way into the convention circuit. As Tudyk explains in the video below, outsiders often think that science fiction fans are the weirdest part about a convention when, in truth, the strangest characters can be found behind the scenes.
Already they have their Firefly cast members Sean Maher and Gina Torres along for the ride as well as James Gunn, Seth Green, Felicia Day and Amy Acker, just to start. (more…)
Part of the fun of Joss Whedon‘s adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing was seeing the Whedon repertory players – gathered from Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse and The Avengers – put on a Shakespeare play. Whedon breeds a lot of loyalty, and that’s extended to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. right from the start with J. August Richards in the role we’ve come to know as Deathlok, for example. Now comes news that one of Richards’ co-stars from Angel is joining the show, and they have a mysterious, and potentially spoilery, connection to Coulson’s past. (more…)
So what do you get when mix a skinny Chris Hemsworth (Thor) with one of the coolest people on Angel, Amy Acker CABIN IN THE WOODS mofo’s! It’s pretty exciting that a picture has surfaced for this film that as of yet still doesn’t have a release date. The film comes from the one and only Joss Whedon and as described by Acker,
“There are a lot of scary monsters. It’s a scary movie. It is about a cabin in the woods. You’ve figured it out. Yeah, it’s about a cabin in the woods. It does take from the sort of formula of the horror movie of this group of young kids who go away to a cabin in the woods for the weekend, and everything that happens and what you think is supposed to happen.”
I LOVE this type of cheesy horror flick and think that Joss can make a pretty damn good one! Hopefully Lionsgate will give us something soon!
