Ant-Man and The Wasp
Five years ago, a C- or even D-level superhero carrying his own standalone franchise seemed like a risky proposition, but where Marvel – and more specifically the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – goes, moviegoers have followed (10 years, 20 movies, and counting), with little or no signs of boredom. It’s helped that the MCU has Marvel’s 60-year (give or take a few years) history to pick and choose from, but it’s also helped that Marvel’s leadership, specifically uber-producer Kevin Feige, have pushed the boundaries of what the superhero genre can offer mainstream audiences, while giving an increasingly diverse group of filmmakers creative opportunities unusual for corporate-owned, billion-dollar franchises. For Edgar Wright and his long-in-the-making Ant-Man, that didn’t happen. He left the production months before shooting began over “creative differences,” but Marvel being Marvel, they pushed on with Peyton Reed taking over for Wright. Wright’s fans might have been disappointed, but the Reed-directed Ant-Man still managed to deliver quality superhero thrills. Spoiler alert: Ant-Man and the Wasp (the first MCU film to headline a female character) does Ant-Man better in just about every way (e.g., story, character, and visuals). (more…)

Fresh off the news that Michelle Pfeiffer will be playing Janet Van Dyne in Marvel/Disney’s upcoming Ant-Man sequel Ant-Man And The Wasp, we have learned that Judy Greer will return to reprise her role in the sequel. Greer played Scott Lang’s ex-wife, Maggie Lang, so her return indicates there will still be some family drama for our hero moving forward.
At the top of their at panel at SDCC 2017, Marvel Studios announced new casting additions to Ant-Man And The Wasp, the highly anticipated sequel to Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. Two actors, who already have strong roots in the comic book movie world. (more…)
For those fans who bothered to stick around for the post-credit scenes from 2015’s Ant-Man, it should come as no surprise that Evangeline Lilly’s character from the first film, Hope Van Dyne, will be strapping on the wings and taking on the mantle of the Wasp in the film’s upcoming sequel. Of course, since the sequel is titled And-Man and The Wasp, you probably already knew that anyway even if you rushed to the bathroom at the film’s ending instead of sticking around. Even though we got to see a costume on the wall in that scene, a final approved look had yet to be revealed… until today! (more…)
Marvel Studios had a busy day today!
Guardians of the Galaxy just about ready to hit theaters, and has been getting some great first reactions by some critics. Kevin Feige decided to let the floodgates open and hosted an Open House at the Disney lot in Burbank. There, members of the press were treated to all sorts of details for the upcoming Phase 3 films including Black Panther, Antman and The Wasp, and Captain Marvel.
As comic book fans know, the Wasp was part of the first team of The Avengers along with the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Ant-Man. In fact, the Wasp has been at the centre of many Avengers rosters in the team’s 50-year history, but when it comes to the movies, we’ve had two Avengers movies go by now without the Wasp, and Evangeline Lilly, who plays the Marvel Cinematic Universe iteration of the character. She even had to sit out Civil War even though Ant-Man Paul Rudd went into battle. Well, like all things Marvel, there is a plan, and the plan is to make the Wasp an Avenger, just not immediately. (more…)
Evangeline Lilly, the center of everyone’s favorite love triangle on that much missed show of the early aughts, Lost, may be on track to receive her own solo Wasp film. Lilly’s Wasp will join Paul Rudd’s Antman in summer 2018 for the Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, but writer Adam McKay has indicated that may not be the last we see of the Marvel heroine. It all depends, it would seem, upon the success of the upcoming sequel. 2015’s Ant-Man was another success for the Marvel franchise, bringing in a worldwide total of $519.3 and sitting well with both critics and the general population. But will returns like that be enough to get Wasp her own movie? (more…)
