Sometimes the Internet is a harsh mistress, raising our hopes and then laughing manically as they come crashing down around us.  All we can do is pick up the pieces and move on, though sometimes the bad news is enough to scar us for life.  This time the Internet brings us the horrible words of Bruce Campbell who has stated that there will be no Army of Darkness sequel. A little ways back, we gave you the skinny on Bruce Campbell making an official (or at least public) statement that Army of Darkness 2 is indeed on the list of things to do in the near future.  Now, as if anyone was in doubt, it seems that Sam Raimi will be coming back to the director’s chair as well, reuniting the dream team for a flick that people have been begging for ever since the first was released.  (more…)

Since fans and critics everywhere have all but universally declared Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake even Eviler and Deader than the original – not to mention pulled in a tidy $26 million for the studio over the past weekend – it comes as no surprise whatsoever that talk of a sequel, or even a whole new franchise is in the air.

Alvarez and original Evil Dead trilogy star/J.R “Bob” Dobbs avatar Bruce Campbell recently sat down with IGN and rapped about the future of the Evil Dead series. With any luck, we’ll have both a second installment of Alvarez’s Evil Dead – AND Army Of Darkness 2 to look forward to…not to mention a possible crossover between the respective fictional universes.

Let’s give ’em a listen, shall we?

In the meantime, I’ve yet to encounter anyone who has anything negative to say about the new Evil Dead. I haven’t been fortunate enough to see it, but I hope to remedy this soon.

Evil Dead is now playing at theaters nationwide.

With the positive Internet buzz surrounding director Fede Alvarez‘s reboot of the Evil Dead franchise Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have been considering tackling an Evil Dead 4 / Army of Darkness 2 movie. Fans have been asking Campbell about a sequel for years and now we’ve got news that Raimi will be working on a sequel script this summer with his brother.

In a recent interview with Empire Campbell said:

“The reception to this movie [Fede Alvarez’ remake] has been pretty good so far, so it encouraged Sam and I to go, ‘well crap, maybe we should dust the old chainsaw off’, ” laughs Campbell. “If this movie helps us make another Army Of Darkness – Army Of Darkness 2 – then so be it.”

Evil Dead IV, Army Of Darkness 2… however you want to slice it. It’s random ideas in Sam’s head. Let’s not go crazy here. He’s just finished doing Oz, and he’s going to take some time off and he says he’s going to work on it this summer with his brother. He could be smoking cigars at a lakeside cabin for all I know, or he might actually be working, who knows?

When asked where the movie should start:

I would think the post-Apocalyptic because it gives great possibilities for an Omega Man movie, and who he might be fighting against. It would be a very interesting world. But I’m fine either way. I’m sure Sam will concoct some ridiculous story and an outrageous journey, so I don’t really care where it starts and ends.

The fun thing is working again with Sam Raimi. That’s the only reason to do these incredibly difficult movies than work for a guy who you really like working with and who you respect.

Is Campbell planning any changes to his iconic demon fighting character?

He’d still be an idiot and a loser and a blagger,” laughs Campbell. “I look forward to him coming back and screwing things up all over again!

I’d love to see more of Ash and Campbell’s Omega Man style movie would be fantastic.

We mentioned Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead reboot and we’ve got a new Red Band clip below. It is kinda spoiler-ish though. Not that you didn’t expect everyone to get killed anyways. Take a look if you dare.

What do you think? I’m planning to see this in the theater and after watching that clip I don’t think I will drink anything before or during the movie. I don’t want to pee myself by accident.

evil dead remake

With Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake fast approaching its release date, everyone ever involved with the franchise is getting harassed by fans and media who want to know more.  Well, we happen to have heard a rumor or two and it looks like there could be plenty more in the future.  First and foremost, Alvarez is all set to continue the story that he’s developed.  Secondly, it looks like Sam Raimi, if he ever continues his own version, will be aiming at continuing Army of Darkness as opposed to the classic Evil Dead storyline.

Check it out after the jump.
