Sci-Fi/Comic conventions are fun as hell, but sometimes, weird things happen. In addition to breaking the record for the largest gathering of Star Trek fans anywhere, the latest UK Trek-themed convention gains a place at the top of the “WTF?” list and has surely become a legendary moment for actor John Barrowman.

While hosting this past weekend’s Destination Star Trek Five Captains panel – where all five Star Trek captains were under the same roof answering fans’ questions and such – the Doctor Who and Torchwood star asked former Enterprise captain Scott Bakula to sign one of his butt cheeks. Being the sport that he his, Bakula proceeded to semi-permanently sign Barrowman’s torpedo bay under the watchful eyes of fellow Sci-fi captains Sir Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner.

We can’t see everyone’s faces, but judging by the image posted by the @Team_Barrowman twitter page, at least Shatner is having a grand old time of it all.  It’s something like this that could only happen at a convention.

Special thanks to Blastr for sharing the background image to every Torchwood fangirl’s computer for the next six months.

We got a a trifecta of Star Trek news today.

First up. All five of the Star Trek captains appeared together for the first time this weekend at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con. The photo shows William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula from left to right. [GeekTyrant]

Second. A new behind the scenes photo has popped online from J.J. Abrams Star Trek 2. The photo come from a young actress named Anjini Azhar, who is playing the daughter of Noel Clarke and Nanzeen Contractor‘s character in the movie. Whats revealing about this photo is that Simon Pegg (Scotty) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov), are both wearing a new Starfleet uniform design. Personally, I’m not much of a fan of the new uniforms. Too “1940’s Germany” for me. [Trek Movie]

And finally. It’s been nearly twenty-five years since the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Since it’s initial pilot the show has spawned seven seasons, four feature films and somehow turned Wil Wheaton into a teen sex symbol, but we’re not here for that.

NCM Media Networks’s NCM Fathom and CBS television have teamed up for a special one night only event not even Q could pull together. To celebrate both the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: TNG and the upcoming release of season 1 on blu-ray, select theaters will screen two episodes of the iconic sci-fi series on July 23rd. The blu-ray will be released the next day in stores, July 24th.

According to the press release, the one night only showing will air episodes 106 – “Where No One Has Gone Before” and 114 “Datalore.” You can find participating location in your area here. Don’t worry if you cant get a ticket as some locations will be holding additional late night showings. As for when said tickets will be on sale, be first in line as of next Friday, June 8th to guarantee yourself the captain’s chair. This is the one time where being called “number 2” will not net your ship’s counselor.

Also included in in the showings is an exclusive look at the massive restoration of season one, never-before-seen interviews with the original cast, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the artists who created the original FX elements and photography during the making of the show. Audiences will even get an exclusive sneak-peak at season two’s ‘Measure of a Man’ episode.

You may remember this totally rad photo we posted a few days ago of William Shatner arm wrestling Chris Pine, a Kirk vs Kirk if you will. That iconic image was captured when Shatner was interviewing Pine for the upcoming documentary, The Captains. In this documentary, which airs July 21st on Epix HD, Shatner sits down with every Star Trek captain, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula and Pine.

The Captains will hold a premiere at San Diego Comic Con and Brooks, captain on Deep Space Nine, will join Shatner at a panel hosted by Kevin Smith. The panel also includes exclusive clips and a Q &A. A pretty epic event if you ask me, one you definitely don’t want to miss if your a lucky bastard who snagged tickets to Comic Con.

Watch the trailer below for the upcoming doc and let us know, who is your favorite captain? Mine, I’m gonna have to give it to Shatner. The man’s an icon and no man could woo a woman or stare down a Klingon like original Kirk.

Captain Spock? Really, dude? Be ashamed of your nerdy self.
