Battelstar Galactica

You may have forgotten, but long before Ronald Moore launched his critically-acclaimed Sy-Fy remake of Battlestar Galactica, filmmaker Bryan Singer was planning his own Battlestar redo, and it seems he still is.

Working with screenwriter John Orloff, Singer was asked about the status of his BSG by IGN. “I have a script that’s in revisions right now, and it’s very cool,” Singer said.

Cool or not, Singer added that the tone and style of his Battlestar will likely be somewhere in between the campy 70s version and the darker, new millennium take.

“It will exist, I think, quite well between the Glen Larson and Ron Moore universes, but that’s all I want to say about it,” Singer said. “But it’s evolving quite well, and quite recently. I’ve been developing this for a while, and certain things came to fruition recently, and I hope to do it.”

Now I’m not usually one to bitch and moan about remakes, but Moore’s BSG was so seminal and so different from the original to be a classic in its own right, then why do we need a third version? What direction can Singer possibly take it to make it cool and fresh again? Even if he takes a lighter approach to the material, it’s going to feel like Singer is mocking Moore’s more serious, real world approach to BSG. Somehow, I don’t think we’ll be seeing this anytime soon.

‘Caprica’ Is Frakkin Cancelled!

CapricaCylon

Looks like the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ spin-off has recieved it’s pink slip after only running for half a season. The series Caprica, set 58 years before it’s big brother ‘Battlestar Galactica’, it focused on the Adama and Graystone families after an attack killed family members on both sides. Showing the creation of the first ‘Cylon’ and a young Joseph Adama’s life before the destruction of the twelve colonies. This could have lasted at least 3 more seasons if fans had their way, but this isn’t the case.

Here’s what Syfy Senior Vice President Craig Engler had to say on twitter about ‘Caprica’:

“Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”

“The remaining first run episodes of Caprica will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2”

“The final 5 eps will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, & will conclude the run of the series”

“Thanks again to all the awesome fans who watched and supported the show, and to the AMAZING cast and crew.”

Wow, not even a season aired and it gets canned for possibly another spin-off, a BSG prequel that will follow a young Adama in the first Cylon war. Way to kick a show, that had great direction by the way, and toss it in the trash. Syfy, your mother must be proud.
