The range and versatility of the Dwayne Johnson will be put to its biggest test yet next summer when Baywatch hits theatres everywhere. Based on the 90s syndicated drama about the lives and loves of L.A. lifeguards, once renowned for being “the biggest show in the world”, Johnson will be called upon to fill the trunk space of David Hasselhoff and sell the Baywatch brand to a more cynical audience less inclined to tolerate camp and cheese. So can Johnson and Baywatch capture the spirit of the show, while selling it with big screen action and comedy, not to mention beautiful people in swimwear? Well, take a look at the trailer and see. A few weeks ago, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased an upcoming project he was working on. He mentioned he was reading an outline for a “cool movie” that will see him partnering with director Shane Black next year. It didn’t take fans long to ascertain which films Black would be working on in the near future. The director is signed on to direct “The Predator,” a sequel to the it 1987 sci-fi film “Predator,” and to “Doc Savage.” Given Johnson’s acting ability and his physical stature, either film could certainly be a possibility for him to star.
Well, the actor has taken to social media and officially made the announcement that he will be taking on the titular role of Doc Savage. In his announcement, made on his Instagram page, Dwayne posted a photo from this weekend of himself joined with Shane Black, writers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, and producer Hiram Garcia. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, you really need to stop watching all those Shark Week shows, Paramount has put its Baywatch movie back on track. Writer Justin Malen has been brought in to write an original or touch up the previous s attempts script. The comedy writing team of Sean Anders and John Morris (We’re the Millers) are said to be co-directing. Is co-directing a thing now? Anders just wrapped up directing Horrible Bosses 2 so we’ll have a clear indication concerning Anders comedic directing skills.
