Big Trouble in Little China
Just because Big Trouble in Little China is getting a remake, doesn’t mean there isn’t any love for the original. BOOM! Studios, currently known for handling the excellent comic adaptation of Adventure Time as well as the current Power Rangers comic series, has been on the radar of your average comic-geek for a little while now for both aforementioned series, and it seems like they’re ready to make another splash in a big, John Carpenter-esque kind of way with the newest series they announced on July 11th.
A few weeks ago, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased an upcoming project he was working on. He mentioned he was reading an outline for a “cool movie” that will see him partnering with director Shane Black next year. It didn’t take fans long to ascertain which films Black would be working on in the near future. The director is signed on to direct “The Predator,” a sequel to the it 1987 sci-fi film “Predator,” and to “Doc Savage.” Given Johnson’s acting ability and his physical stature, either film could certainly be a possibility for him to star.
Well, the actor has taken to social media and officially made the announcement that he will be taking on the titular role of Doc Savage. In his announcement, made on his Instagram page, Dwayne posted a photo from this weekend of himself joined with Shane Black, writers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, and producer Hiram Garcia. Here’s what the actor revealed on Instagram… (more…)
In 1986, John Carpenter‘s cult classic masterpiece Big Trouble in Little China was released. While it may not have been a commercial success at the time, Big Trouble‘s mix of ancient Chinese folklore, bizarre storyline, and outrageous fantasy set in San Francisco’s Chinatown won the hearts of audiences upon its home video release. Almost a year ago, it was announced that 20th Century Fox had plans for a remake of the film in the works with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the lead role. Not much has been mentioned about it since then, but while promoting his new movie Central Intelligence, Johnson gave enthusiastic reassurance that the film is indeed moving forward. Check out what he had to say below!

You already have a reputation as being one of the most dependable leading men in fickle Hollywood, and you’ve also developed something of a reputation as a “franchise fixer.” With over $50 million in three days at the box office with his latest hit San Andreas, and all those millions with the Johnson-infused Furious 7, 2015 is shaping up to be the Year of the Rock. With clout like that, you can write your own ticket, but the question is for what? Might Johnson push to finally make that Shazam! movie happen? Possibly, but try this on for size: a Big Trouble in Little China remake. Yup, someone’s looking to make it happen, and Johnson is looking to be the star. (more…)
What happens when a comic studio is given the freedom to pick through a movie studio’s old properties and make new stories about whatever they want? Well, in this case, it’s a continuation of one of John Carpenter’s most beloved action/comedy flicks, Big Trouble in Little China. Better yet, Eric Powell (The Goon) is involved in putting the story together. (more…)
