Running through this Thursday at New York City’s massive Javits Center, the 2014 Toy Fair is nothing short of nirvana for anyone who spends their days dreaming of action figures and other wonderful playthings. The annual event is the definitive gathering spot for industry execs, retailers, journalists and bloggers to learn about everything new in the world of toys. On Sunday, I had the opportunity to visit Toy Fair and check out what the major retailers — with the notable exception of Mattel and Lego, who never responded to our press requests, snobs — would be rolling out for the rest of this year and beyond. From the jaw-dropping to the unbelievably goofy, here’s my rundown of the best and worst that this year’s event had to offer. (more…)
We’ve had Godzilla Vs King Kong, Freddy Vs Jason, Aliens Vs Predator… Now, someone’s had the good sense to finally bring us a rumble worthy of the backwoods of North America, the battle of the hairy beasts of the forest. It will be werewolves versus Bigfoot action when Hollywood producers get through adapting the comic, Savage for the big screen. (more…)
If you’ve been waiting for a Police Academy alum to make a movie based on cryptozoology, you’re in luck! (Unless of course you wanted Michael Winslow to make a movie about the Jersey Devil, in that case you still have to wait.)
80’s comedian turned movie maker Bobcat Goldthwait (World’s Greatest Dad, God Bless America) has made Willow Creek, a found footage film based on the legend of Bigfoot.
The movie will premiere at the 2013 Independent Film Festival of Boston and will be featured at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal. You can get a taste with the trailer and synopsis below. (more…)
The next time one of your friends gets the great idea to dress up and prank someone, you might want to step in and be the voice of reason. Montanna resident Randy Lee Tenley could have used some friendly advice last Sunday night. Randy decided to dress up in a fuzzy, military style Ghille suit (What Military snipers use and pictured below) in order to scare motorists and prompt Bigfoot 911 calls.
Tenley was struck and killed by two cars while attempting to cross Highway 93. Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Schneider said:
“He was apparently trying to make people think he was Sasquatch so people would call in a Sasquatch sighting. You can’t make it up. I haven’t seen or heard of anything like this before. Obviously, his suit made it difficult for people to see him.”
Bigfoot is big business up in Montana, there is an annual Elliston Bigfoot Hunt that has been going strong for 22 years. There’s no actual hunting or guns involved, it’s like a great big game of hide and seek where someone dressed as Bigfoot hides, and the rest try to find him followed by a bonfire and BBQ hosted by a local tavern.
Once again, make sure you think through any “fun” pranks you might be planning to attempt. These days you might get shot before anyone realizes you’re just trying to prank them. You might remember this guy that almost got the shit kicked out of him after he dressed up as a zombie and chased people. This NerdBastard isn’t trying to spoil your fun, just be careful out there and think it all the way through.
