Bill & Ted
BOOM! Studios announced today that the duo behind the history-saving band, Wyld Stallyns alongside lead guitarists, Bill & Ted are coming back to the pages of comics in the forthcoming Bill & Ted Save The Universe. The creative team behind this new adventure is the same that gave us 2015’s Bill & Ted Go To Hell. This time, it’s not just history that’s at stake… it’s not just the world either. It’s the whole Universe. Whoa.
You know what’s totally heinous? Being reminded how old you are. But, hey, that’s what happens when reflecting on pop culture classics of yesteryear. If you’re a child of the 80’s/early 90s’, and remember Bill and Ted, then you’re an old dude (or babe). It’s been a whopping 27 years (Whoa!) since rockin’ nitwits Bill S Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan hopped in a phone booth and traveled through time, meeting up with historic figures like Genghis Khan, Socrates (pronounced in Bill & Ted speak as “So Crates”), Billy The Kid, Abe Lincoln, Joan of Arc and Napoleon. And, 25 years, since their follow up sequel Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, which saw the happily dimwitted duo go the hell (literally) and back.
Regardless of the passage time, and despite the long promises of a 3rd movie from actors Keanu Reeves and Alex Winters, the fandom for Bill and Ted is still strong. So much so, that NECA, purveyors of toys and collectibles from the hottest IPs, have released a most triumphant figurine boxed set. (more…)
The rise of Bill & Ted 3 has been rumored to be on the horizon. We’ve heard from Alex Winter, we’ve heard from Keanu Reeves and what we’ve heard is that they’re both very intent on reprising the roles they made famous back in the late 80s. But as that production lumbers on, scripts and budgets being tweaked to make the possibility into a reality, someone else looks to be jumping on the return of Bill & Ted bandwagon. For according to Ian Brill of Boom! Studios, we’ll be getting another Bill & Ted comic book in the near future. (more…)
The news keeps rolling out about the third film in the Bill & Ted franchise. Keanu Reeves talked with GQ and said this about the plot details for Bill & Ted III:
“One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world,” and they haven’t done it.
So everybody is kind of like: ‘Where is the song?; The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock.
We go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future ‘us’ refuses to tell us, and another future ‘us’ blames us for their lives because we didn’t write the song, so they’re living this terrible life. In one version we’re in jail; in another we’re at some kind of highway motel and they hate us.”
What do you think about that? It could work out, there’s a lot of material in that search for the greatest song. The movie still needs financing and a studio to produce the film so perhaps this is an attempt by Keanu to hype up the fan base and garner interest from studios. If that’s the case then expect some more info to come out in the days to come.
Righteous news hit the Internet for Bill & Ted fans today with the word that Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot has been attached to direct the third installment in the Bill & Ted saga. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are already publicly attached to star in the script from the original Bill & Ted creators Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.
The really good news, when one looks at situation as a whole, is that this will NOT be a reboot or remake like so many of the movies from some of our favorite franchises in the past couple of years. This production will look at where Ted Theodore Logan and Bill S. Preston, Esq. are in their lives today.
Although MGM Pictures still holds the rights to the Bill & Ted franchise, word is that the production is being shopped around to other studios to co-finance the project. NerdBastards will let you know which studios join the production as word is leaked out.
Don’t get to excited though and run to get in line at the theater, Parisot still has to finish directing the sequel to the sleeper hit RED that starts shooting this spring. A couple of years ago when Alex Winters started tweeting about a third Bill & Ted movie this NerdBastard never thought it would get this far.
What do you think about the choice of Parisot for director? What are you looking for in a third Bill & Ted movie?
This NerdBastard wonders . . .
What are they gonna do about Rufus ? ? ?
After more than 20 years off the screen, it looks like Bill & Ted may be coming back for another round of attempting to save the world by traveling through time. The latest rumors appear to be more than just rumors, as both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter (that’s the other guy) have been commenting that the script for Bill & Ted 3 is done and looks good.
Bill & Ted’s adventures started Excellent in 1989 and turned Bogus in 1991, with some added storyline coming in the form of an animated series, a horrible live-action television show (sans Reeves and Winter) and a comic book. The latest addition will turn the franchise into a trilogy, where it will join the ranks of such classics as Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Oh wait… those are all screwed up now, aren’t they?
Well, regardless of how many films make a trilogy, the question still remains whether these two 40-something actors can bring back the old magic and produce a flick that is going to do more than just make people ill.
The new movie’s plot appears to revolve around finishing the original story by having Bill & Ted write the fabled song that will end up saving the world. What they save the world from remains to be seen. One can only hope that they’re not attempting to save it from this film, as they would be a tad too late.
Both actors have expressed interest in doing a third film, though only if the script was acceptable. Winter isn’t doing much else these days, so it’s understandable that he’d give the green light. And Reeves? Well, how good does a script have to be for him to jump on board?
Despite the thumbs up from the Excellent duo, there still remains the possibility that this potential abortion never makes it to production. Seriously, how many people want to see two middle-aged dudes acting borderline mentally handicapped while attempting to save the world? Oh wait, that’s most of the movie-viewing audience in America, isn’t it? If Bruce Willis can make 47 Die Hard films, Reeves and Winter certainly deserve a chance to try their hands at another B&T extravaganza.
On the plus side for Reeves, this may be his big chance to finally win that Oscar, reprising the role that made him a household name and, as a result, tolerable enough to be cast in dozens of other films. Or maybe not.
*EDITORS NOTE: Special thanks to Nerd Bastards contributor Jason McAnelly for covering today’s “Most Excellent” news.
It seems that the man who made “Woah” a catch-phrase is going to be very, very busy for the next little while.
According to GeekTyrant, Keanu Reeves was in London to drum up press for his new movie, Henry’s Crime, revealed that he has numerous projects in the work.
Reeves is currently training for a hard R-rated samurai 3D action film that’s in development. He also revealed that Bill & Ted 3 is currently in development and he assured everyone that he is “committed” to the project.
He also announced that he recently met with the Wachowski’s who are currently working on Cloud Atlas, to discuss a fourth Matrix film as their next project which would bring Reeves back as Neo. The Wachowski’s have been meeting with James Cameron to discuss the pros and cons of 3D for the film with Cameron.
In other news, Reeves mentioned that the Wachowski’s recently sold their Robin Hood script to Warner Bros. for $5 million (their highest payday) and that the film is set to “have the same impact visually and technically that Terminator 2,” and that Will Smith is set to star in the lead!
I am not sure how I feel about this, and I’m sure most people out there will agree with me. These are all speculation at the moment, as nothing has been officially confirmed. But, I think that fans everywhere will have one of two possible reactions about these upcoming projects.
1) You’ll be excited about the amazing potential that could spring from these upcoming movies
2) You’ll be furious that Hollywood is going back to the well and destroying franchises that deserve to be left in peace.
Which camp do you fall into? Are you looking forward to another Matrix and/or Bill & Ted?
