A lot of info about the upcoming Blade Runner sequel is being kept under some pretty tight wraps- even details like the official title.  We’ve got some cast members, but no characters to attach their names to other than Harrison Ford, who will return as Deckard.  But wait!  A picture was snapped of the promo poster where it was displayed at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas!  Maybe some visual clues will give us something (anything) to work with!  A bone finally thrown our way!  Oh… wait… (more…)

The strange weird wonderful journey of Blade Runner 2, or Untitled Blade Runner Sequel if you like, continues. First its announcement came out of nowhere more than 30 years after the original’s release, then Ridley Scott stepped down as director and handed the reins over to Denis Villeneuve, and then there was all that release date Musical Chairs… Today though, we’re here to talk about an interesting casting announcement. You may not have heard about Sylvia Hoeks, but the Blade Runner 2 production has and they have cast the Dutch actress in what they’re calling “a leading role” in the sequel. (more…)

This is one of those projects that you’ll be forgiven for not believing that it will happen, until it actually happens, but we have another casting announcement about the Blade Runner sequel. Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but it looks like this thing may be actually happening. Last week Robin Wright was announced to be joining the cast last week, which already includes Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in his epic return as Rick Deckard. The new member of the cast is himself no stranger to science fiction, franchises, or beating the odds. In other words, Dave Bautista is going to have a very busy year. (more…)

Sir Ridley Scott has a new film called The Martian coming out this weekend, so naturally everyone wants to talk about other films he has in development, specifically sequels/prequels/continuation of seminal sci-fi classics he made decades ago. Scott’s already talked about Prometheus 2 Alien: Paradise Lost, which is rumored to be his very next film, but what about that Blade Runner sequel? Scott will not be directing that one – the duty will fall to Denis Villenueve – but Scott has been working diligently to develop the project and will stay on as a producer. But why? Why crank out a sequel to a film that most people think is fine and self-contained as it is? (more…)

It’s Friday, so it’s time for the week’s weirdest news item, and what could be weirder than a casting announcement for the bizarro sequel to a 33-year-old film that bombed at the box office when it originally came out? Well, that’s brutal because Blade Runner‘s become very well thought of the last three decades, which makes it very attractive to be sequelized in the here and now. Speaking of attractive, Ryan Gosling has now been added to the cast of the sequel. Gosling will join the returning Harrison Ford for the new Blade Runner, which will continue the story of Deckard, the Replicants, and a fascinating futuristic world now only four years away that looks nothing like our own. Street Scenes in Blade Runner

Well, this is happening. It seems. After years (and years) of idle speculation and rumor mongering, Blade Runner 2 is finally moving forward with it’s old star and a new director. Sadly, Sir Ridley Scott will not be sitting in the director’s chair for the long awaited follow-up to his 1982 film Blade Runner, but that film’s star, Harrison Ford, will be, completing a trifecta of encores to his classic roles including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As for who will be directing Ford in this new effort? In a surprise move, the producers have chosen the Academy Award-winning director Denis Villeneuve to tell Deckard’s next chapter. (more…)

Ridley Scott‘s films have been the subject of many critical divides and sparked a number of debates amongst his fans. Which is great; that’s what film making is all about, individual perceptions and being able to walk away with diverse theories and conclusions. Blade Runner, upon its first release way back in 1982, was subject to a critical mauling and failed at the Box Office. There was rampant in-fighting over the script and the famous: “is he, or isn’t he,” in reference to whether Deckard was a replicant or not (the fact that it’s left up to the viewers is something that a director would never get away with nowadays, what, with test audiences not happy until they have a full-blown conclusion). That’s how the fight about Blade Runner‘s narrative running through the theatrical cut came about; with test audiences and studio executives demanding that the storyline was spoon-fed to them rather than being more evasive. Thank god for the final cut, which is an absolute masterpiece – not just within the sci-fi genre – but as a standalone film. Scott has a knack for dividing critics and audiences alike, and the same thing happened with the fantastic Prometheus (Yes, you heard me right: “fantastic”). (more…)

Harrison Ford

Word on the street a couple of weeks back, was that Ridley Scott was really happy with the Blade Runner 2 script, but that he would not be directing the long awaited follow-up to the original science-fiction masterpiece. This piece of news was well sourced and came straight from the horse’s mouth. Well it turns out that a certain someone is still undecided about the next project that they plan to pick up – and that certain someone is Ridley Scott – who is currently working on The Martian  (a big screen adaptation of Andy Weir‘s popular space survival movie). Therefore, it looks like Scott will have a big decision to make when he has wrapped post-production on The Martian next year. Will Scott direct Blade Runner 2, or will he direct Prometheus 2? (more…)

While some people out there may be rolling their eyes at the prospect of seeing a sequel to either Prometheus or Blade Runner, the fact is that Ridley Scott is pretty intent on putting both of these together.  And so, while we wait, the team at Nerd Bastards watches the Internet for any new information on how those two projects are going.  Today, Scott had a few words about both flicks.  Check out what he had to say below.
