One of the biggest selling points of Deadpool was the way it was sold. The various facets of the film’s marketing plan, including a lot of participation from star Ryan Reynolds, that sent a message far and wide that this was not going to be your average superhero movie, and the audience fell for it to the tune of over three-quarters of a million dollars worldwide so far. So it should come as no surprise that the home video release of Deadpool should be equally tongue-in-cheek. The special features that will accompany the DVD and Blu-ray of Deadpool have been announced, and while they’re pretty standard, the annotated version of the poster is not. (more…)

You may still have a VCR or a Laserdisc player, but you’re not going to get Deadpool for it, but it’s nice to know that even while promoting its home video release, Deadpool hasn’t lost his distinctive sense of humor. Is nothing sacred? Of course, the answer is ‘No.’ At the same time though, one would think that if there was such a thing as “sacred” in the movie business, it would be Star Wars, and you would be wrong because a couple of weeks in advanced of The Force Awakens’ DVD and Blu-ray release, some hooked-handed, peg-legged person has uploaded a DVD quality version of the film to pirate sites. As you’re well aware, the internet is forever, which means that if you want a high quality version of the film, you can probably find it with a minimum of effort.  (more…)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey

The South-by-Southwest Film Festival is currently in full swing, and the lineup of events, panels, and screenings for the week-long celebration of movies is impressive, to say the least.  Recently, the festival hosted some of the top behind-the-scenes brass from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to chat about the making of the film in advance of the movie’s home-video release. By now you’ve probably seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens two, three, maybe even seven or eight times at the movie theater. So now what? You’re probably eager to have the experience at home, keeping it close at hand on your Blu-ray shelf or your computer hard drive. Well here’s good news because it sounds like the Force (Awakens) will soon be with you on home video! On the bright side, if this report is right, Star Wars is only a couple of weeks away from its home video launch. (more…)

So you’re partner shot himself to prevent his evil descendent from being born and coming back in time to kill all your friends… Just another day in the Central City Police Department (and another Tuesday night on The Flash). So with the, uh, departure of Detective Eddie Thawne (and the actor who played him Rick Cosnett), there’s a hole in the roster of the CCPD. Detective Joe West is going to need a new partner in order to keep all those meta-human criminals in check. A leak has given a hint at just who that new detective might be, and at the same time, Warner Bros. has released the cover art and technical specs for the first season of the show when it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray later this year. Remember that movie that came out last summer that everybody loved? The one with the talking tree and the racoon with the bad attitude? Ah, memories. Yes, well Guardians of the Galaxy will be available on DVD and Blu-ray early next month, conveniently in time for Christmas, which would make it a great stocking stuffer. Marvel Studios‘ latest film created a lot of fans for the spacefaring heroes and their director James Gunn, and looking forward, it is one of the key pieces in the studio’s strategy to push the envelope with new and crazier heroes, and to expand the comic book movie type into new genres not yet explored. It also made space opera cool again, and turned “We are Groot” into a universal expression of friendship. With all that in mind, in case we’ve forgotten any of it, Marvel’s release a trailer for GOTG‘s home video release. (more…)
